john kirkalde rides a turner. now i know he said to someone on this forum that he doesn't care what bike he gets because hes going to kill anyways, but i saw him ride this year and i couldn't believe the things that i saw. at mt. snow, he was by far the most out of control looking guy riding most of the time sideways, and his turner wasn't broken that weekend. he plowed a boulder off the trail with his back wheel, and it was sweet. enough, id get a turner if cost didn't matter as resale is way better.

same here... ;)

(I do find the "exotic" comments of the DHR pretty funny, around here it's pretty much 45% SGSs, 45% DHRs and 10% V10s. :oink: )
Yeah... but I think it's the fit, geometry, and ride-characteristics the messirs ride is mostly concerned with.

Since I'm already posting, let me throw in another factor: mr.ride here get's a Turner Rail at NO COST for his MTX/DS racing needs if he goes for the DHR.

The plot thickens...

 :D

Sorry man... couldn't resist.

:D

DHR is my vote.

I reccomended an Iron Horse to my brother as a rig for the beginner DH'r and he has gotta LOUSEY customer service. Just trying to order deralier hangers and getting some advice on fixing his rear hub that went bad in 2weeks.
When he calls them it is chore to get any advice or favorable agreeable repsonse from them. He totally regrets buying the bike. I regret reccomending it......i thought IH had stepped up their program over the last few years but in our epxerience that is not the case.

The guys at Turner have been nothing less than stellar in their customer service. Gregg Wulf has helped me and given me advice at every turn. With that kind of CS i am now entering my 3rd year on the same frame. I just finished building it up with new bearings and it has ZERO play. It completely rock solid in EVERY aspect. I believe i am riding the most durable DH race bike ever made. It has over 1000 runs on it and shows no degrade in stiffness or unfavorable wear.

Sounds more like west coast....... :D

Most people that have ridden turners seem to like them, as do most sgs folks and you know that you like the sgs........

If I were you I'd have to prove to myself that the turner is even worth considering since you're already happy with one of your options. If you know the speed metal guys or are one of them, you should be surrounded with test rides. Nothing beats knowing for sure.

And the word *bling* doesn't mean d!ck when you're headed into a bunch of rocks at 25-30 mph. Go with the ride, not the aura.

Kidwoo is absolutely right about the bling factor, it means nothing when your equipment matters the most.

But if (1) ChainWhip is for real about multiple Turners, (2) you won't be getting more than one Iron Horse, and (3) you can't afford new bikes whenever you want, I'd be a little more open to considering the Turner deal. I mean come on it's definitely worth considering...bottom line is that there is no substitute for getting out there and riding one of each, that's the only way you'll know, and the best you can do to prevent that creepy feeling that you should of bought something else.

It says alot about the SGS that you are still considering it instead of two Turners. Lots of people would need two pre-'05 Iron Horsies to push them away from the DHR.

I have an Ironhorse SGS, and I certainly am biased toward it since it was the bike i could afford. it corners with confidence and is a superb handler. i would ride it just so you can spank the Turner owners and laugh all the way to the bank.

Ride would "spank" on just about any bike.

Funny you should say that. I bought a new Turner DHR because I couldn't afford the new IronHorse.

Its a shame, I would never even consider a Turner in the UK they are waaaay over priced. they come in at a price above V-10s and around M3s. Its a shame I think they are great looking bikes but the current distributor needs a kick in the ass if Turner want there bikes sold over here!
Sundays are exactly $1882 cheaper!! Thats right the Uk price for a turner frame only with romic shock is $4,707.36

Thats funny, over here in Australia a Turner DHR frame is about $1300 cheaper then a V10. Granted, the v10 comes with a hub, so make that $800 more expensive once you get a hadley for a turner. A turner is $3750, a v10 is $5400. A foes is like $6500, and a m3 is about $6000. Thing is you buy the turners direct from the guy who imports them so there is no middle man mark up.

You guys think things are expensive over there, try buying mountain bike stuff here

*edit* Those are just frame prices by the way

sorry but the uk turner price is worse than yours! our price is effectively 2400 Ozzy dollars more :dead:
Yeh, it all comes down to the importer. We have a really good guy doing it over here.

Hey, both are great bikes but if you were getting it for free for sure I would go with the DHR. Heck, even if you didn't like it you could sell the frame and get a couple of the IH frames for the money.

They are both capable bikes, but you can't deny the bling....

Yeah I sold my kidney on ebay to buy my bike. Prices here are stupid compared to the rest of the world.

Pure gold. Pity the quote means nothing outside an MTB forum.

My LBS has a V10 on the wall for $4495, and an M3 for $5395 or something. Yes, $au.

That is straight up ludicrous.
