Is there a SS spider for the old style (1998) LX crankset?
What spacers should I use for the cassette?
What is a good chain tensioner?

Surly Singulator is a possibility, maybe Paul's or Spot...think they're pretty much all the same. Never used one myself...SS bikes should have horiz. drops IMHO.

For the cranks, I'd stop trying to find an odd spider, if it exists, and just get a slightly shorter BB. Then put your 32/34t ring on the outside step of the existing spider. With the spacers set up in the rear, you can adjust the chainline however you need.

To get rear spacers, just find some old freehub cassettes, whatever speed, and take them apart. THis might require some drilling depending on the cassette; your LBS may have some old stuff you can get cheaply or free. Then use the spacers that separate the cogs.
