Now that I’m working from home several days a week, I need a better screen situation for my laptop connection. I’ve got an old 27” box that is okay but outdated.

Hive-mind thoughts would be appreciated on going with either a 27” monitor with better resolution than what I’ve got, which seems to be $250-$350 range. Or, there are some 1080 TV sets in that size and price range, or I could go to a bigger set for 4K and not much more cash (still under $400).

This Samsung seems pretty strong. I’m just not sure I want a 40” screen, which seems a bit much for my needs. I think it’s gonna need an adapter to plug into the laptop, but that’s cheap and easy enough.

I’ll be doing spreadsheet work, and reading pdf legal docs. I need to have about 3-4 windows open at any given time.

Are you sitting at a desk or couch surfing? Personally I'd opt for two smaller monitors.

Red ones of course.

For work with text I highly recommend 4K.

At work I run two 27" 4K in landscape, side by side. At home I run a 4K TV across the room, which is ok since it's 80". If you do that you can work from the couch like me... :D

I got a killer deal on a "gaming" 27" monitor that I should have bought two of for $150 from Best Buy. I think it is branded Acer, but I would have to look.

I tried to use my crap tv, but it was awful. A 4k setup would likely work from the lazyboy ok, though. That's why I bought the monitor in the first place.

<edit> I was using my mini PC that doesn't have hdmi output, so I used an adapter and had weird upscaling/overscaning issues, too. I had to mess with my tv settings just to get it to display half assed. So video card might be important.

I use two 27" lcds at home and share my desktop across both as well as my laptop display. The lcds aren't super high end gaming displays, but more than good enough for work and surfing the :monkey:

Any self respecting Hipster would ditch the computer and throw down on some Hieroglyphs or Cuneiform. Get with it man !
Fun fact that I may or may not have mentioned here before: My mother has a PhD in Ancient Assryian Art. She legit can throw down the cuneiform.

Buy a decent one from Best Buy. Take it back. Wait a few days and go back to the store and buy it back from the Open Box display for the 70% discount....
