Beech Mtn Definitely NOT Boulder
So today I went out to the local sports complex to play a game of ultimate frisbee (no hippie jokes necessary:rolleyes:) with some kids from my school. And while we were playing some asshole comes and breaks windows out of 4 of my friends cars and only ends up taking one wallet that had about 20 bucks in it. (skipping over loose money, phones, other wallets, ipods, and thousands in audio equipment ) We called the police, they didn't know where the complex was, we explained where it was and they said they were on the way. 10 mins later we called back and got the same story and they said they were sending someone out. 15 mins later still nothing, so we called back and they said they didnt have an officer available in the area... So after another 45 mins and a few more calls a cop car pulls up, and the guy that gets out looks like he is about the oldest guy on the force and he does a 10 min report and leaves. But if theres a party or a group of kids smoking pot, there will be four cruisers on the scene within 5 mins... I feel like there doin it wrong.

Living the dream.
A man wakes up one night and hears somebody rummaging around in his garage so he calls the cops.

"There is somebody out in my garage, I think I'm being robbed."
"Is there anybody in your house?"
"No, the house is still locked and secure."
"Okay, stay in the house, we'll have a cruiser out to you in a half hour or so."
"What! But they're still out there, can't you get here any quicker?"
"I'm sorry sir, all of our officers are busy, if they attempt to enter the house call us back, otherwise just wait until the officer arrives."
"Thank you, goodbye."
"Goodbye sir."

The man waits a minute then calls the police back.

"Hello, I just called about somebody breaking into my garage, there's no need to hurry, I've gone out and shot the intruder, he's not going anywhere."

Within 2 minutes there were 5 police cruisers in his driveway and they caught the intruder trying to run from the garage.

I think you need to try a different tactic next time.

with the voices in my head
on a 90 degree day in the summer i saw a monroe county police k-9 car with the dog in the car parked at a starbucks in pittsford, i went inside to get something cold to drink, the officer was standing talking to the hottie behind the counter. i was there for 20 min and when i left he was still standing there dog outside in the august heat (car was not running) if that was anyone but a cop we would have been arrested.
imo their all dirt bags with their own agenda and they could care less about public safety

This sounded like a real story:

The district attorney's office has decided not to file charges against an Alameda police K-9 officer whose dog died when he left it unattended while he was on duty.

"It is very tragic when an animal dies under these circumstances, but there is insufficient evidence to prove that the officer acted unreasonably based upon all the evidence presented in the case," Assistant District Attorney Charlotte Green said in a written statement on Monday.

An internal police investigation into the actions of the officer, who has not been named, remains pending.

The officer was attending a training exercise May 5 when he left the animal in his Sport Utility Vehicle for about three hours and 15 minutes, police said.

The officer had left a window of the SUV partially open, police said.

I wish!! The guy that did show up was at least 65 and he wouldn't be chasing anyone down with all the extra weight he was carrying ;)
was it in HP? if so...first shift was SLAMMED today and car break-ins are assigned a priority level of 6, ie: get to it when nothing else is going on because 1. your car isn't going anywhere 2. evidence isn't evaporating (if there is any) 3. no one is in physical harm

if you were playing frisbee golf in HP then i know where you're at and they stick the older officers up there for a reason....not many real problems out there other than the occasional car b&e, unattended high school party, or drunk driver.

you're old enough to do a ride along...you should sign up for one with me one night and i'll show you why our response times to non-emergency stuff can be a bit delayed. i think it'll give you a different perspective on your hometown than you ever wanted to have. just be glad you don't live in greensboro, their average response time is nearly double ours...and it's only going to get worse here because we won't be replacing any of the officers that leave/retire over the next couple of years.

ok...so who here wants Sstalder5 to do a ride along with me and write a thread about it? :D

Seriously, I did think about the response time to the cyclist's death in Key Biscayne last weekend, over 30 minutes.

There were the excuses offered, such as a local FD closure.

So as inconvenient as it is to wait for a cop show up, it wasn't life or death, was it.

If you think that's $hitty response time then be thankfull that you don't live in Hollywood. Take a guess how many officers patrol Hollywood Division, an area covering 34 sq. miles in the heart of Los Angeles. ....2, 2 man cars. A grand total of FOUR cops patrolling ALL of Hollywood! Those guys get so slammed that they don't even bother responding to shots fired calls. LAPD was once the premier Police Department. Now its been neutered by lawyers.

ASH Institute Award

Prior to the launch of its Overt Drug Market Strategy, the High Point Police Department struggled to halt escalating drug trade and violent crime throughout the neighborhoods of High Point, North Carolina........
....Created in 1997, the Police Department’s Repeat Offender Notification Strategy has achieved significant and sustainable results in reducing crime rates through collaboration with community leaders. From 1997 to 2005, High Point reports an overall 47 percent reduction in its violent crime index.
....We are pleased to honor High Point’s commendable work and believe cities across the country will learn from this example.”
http://www.jjay.cuny.edu/948.php
“The High Point work is the most gratifying I’ve ever done,” says Professor Kennedy. “I got into the crime prevention field because of the crack epidemic and what it was doing to communities, and after all this time perhaps we’re finally getting somewhere. This holds out hope for protecting communities both from drugs and violence and from the unintended consequences of rampant law enforcement. It gives us a framework for working on racial issues that terrify us so deeply we can’t even acknowledge them. The people in High Point are selfless, serious, and courageous, and they deserve this award completely.”
again... a ride along would be rather eye-opening to the real problems in the city, not just those perceived by a teen that lives in the white-collar part of town.
