from last week's reuters/alternet:
NEW YORK, April 5 (Reuters) - An Iraqi freelance cameraman who works for CBS News was shot and wounded on Tuesday in northern Iraq by U.S. troops who mistook his camera for a weapon, the U.S. military and CBS News said.
then, in today's yippe kai-yay!!!! news:
But on Friday, the military said the cameraman was detained because there was probable cause to believe he posed "an imperative threat to coalition forces."

"He is currently detained and will be processed as any other security detainee," the statement said.

CBS News spokeswoman Leigh Farris said, "We're looking into the situation."

A spokesman for Task Force Freedom, Capt. Mark Walter, said the reporter suffered minor wounds and was with "a number of people" involved in the shootout.

Walter said the reporter was detained immediately after the incident, in part because of statements from witnesses to the battle.

Officials are investigating the man's previous activities as well as "his alleged support of anti-Iraqi insurgency activities," the statement said
coverup, or a serious case of media bias?

I believe he was trying to convey that shooting the cameraman may have been covered up with "probable threat" rather than just saying they shot an innocent Iraqi.

No, that's what Changleen would say. From Stinkle it would be more like "terrorists replaces gun with camara after being shot".

Sometimes I just don't see what other people see. In this case, I don't see anything inflammatory. CBS had a guy on the payroll who probably had insurgent connections. Good for them, they should have their tentacles everywhere. Said guy was shot by US Military - who promptly issued a statement about gun/camara/bigscaryblackthing. Unfortunate reality of the situation, but understandable. [It's not like he was in a hotel room or something  ] US military keeps guy around for questioning. um ... where is the issue? The bias? The cover up? Seems fairly straight foward.

sometimes these guys [reporters] get too close to the action w/o having some splaining to do. we just hashed out the eason jordon kerfuffle recently, and look at all those tight shots AP reporters continuously get of hamas (and i'm not talking about arab reporters, but those from the AP pool).

on the other hand, i can see why any western enemy could believe they are spies
