Ive been lookin all over for a rear hub that has a solid axel, 36 hole, uses a freewheel (ss only), 135 mm spacing and is disc compatible. A cheaper option would be nice. I ride alot of street/park and trail, and my Hugi Fr hub likes to snap in half. So who knows what im looking for?

Love,

My Woodman is pretty sweet. It is a cassette style but I like it. Cogs are cheap if you want to play around with different sizes and adjusting chainline is easy. I got mine throuh unreal.

Hadley all the way. The SS hub uses Ti fixing bolts and is available with 108 points of engagement in a single revolution. Ti freehub body and the sexiest machine work around. Hadleys are the only hubs I will ever use...period. The company is good people too, some of the nicest folks I've ever dealt with. Now that they come in flavors (black silver, gold(bling-bling!), red and blue) there is no reason to even consider any other brand.

Any place where i could read up on these hadley hubs?
You can read about the hadleys HERE

Sseriously though, why hasnt some net nerd offered to create them a space on the back end of come corprate server in trade for a hub or something? In a dark corner no one will notice??? I always see people ask for their website and as far as i know one doesnt exist. It seems to me to be such a basic tool these days.

prolly one of the most affordable and forsure the burliest would be the planet X goliath SS hub. its got a row of 6 sealed bearings on the bmx style 3/8 axle. has a freewheel is super tight engagement as well. clickly clicky

Just get a surly rear disc hub and run a White Industries Freewheel. Less than $150 for the pair and damn near bomb-proof.

were it not for "disc compatible", the PX Full Monty would be my rec. but you said disk, and freewheel, which leaves very few options.

Other than that, go for the Surly. It's the only solid axle, disc, 36h, freewheel-only hub I can think of. Prolly about $70 - $80.

http://www.singlespeed.nl has a list and pics just about every singlespeeed hub option out there.

if you want dishless Surly is the worst option, though it is one of the tougher designs out there.

I vote spot because i have a little patriotism and it looks sweet. I bought the Norco version of the woodman because i want to run a cassette style rear end and i can't seem to get a hold of the hadley. I suppose i could've given my buisness to Ben at unreal but adding up all the costs plus the time to get it here, meh i'll do it another time.

Whats wrong with the surly? They seem to work well, its just that they only use 2 bearings sets that scares me.
For the criteria you stated, they are perfect. Cheap too. If the bearings worry you, just count on popping in new ones once a year. Still cheap.

They don't build up "dishless", but the offset is minimal.

Those are my next hubs for sure.

get a King SS disc hub... definately not the cheapest but it also means install = forget.
All hubs need service, the Kings just don't need it as often.

They're really, really nice. I'd say so nice they kinda go against my own sense of what an SS bike should be.

Anyhoo...

the woodman one is nice i have been riding it for about 3 months now. the racheting is fairly good(24 points). the only "problem" is that it 32 hole only but lace it to a strong rim and that will not matter. the axle is solid and well made so i see no reason to have problems with it.

fyi- i use this hub on my fr,dh,urban, park bike so it gets punished

btw you know me. i ride a banshee morphine the the 495 dj

Good post! I'm currently being seduced by the thoughts of running SS. Does anyone actually have any real long-term riding time on the Hadley. Definitely looks like a great hub if you can actually find one. But how does the Ti freehub stand up to using a standard steel cassette cog? Any grinding/wearing thru use?

well apaarently it's one of the toughest casete options. You should run a proper widebase SS cog no matter the freehub body material though.

the Hadley SS is still fairly new. though, i can't foresee it be any less quality than their regular hubs. my King SS hubs have been treating me well, too.

and CreeP is right about wide based hubs. only problem is they're a little tough to get. Kings seems to sell out a lot, and Boones are $$$$. Surly has some coming out that will have 9sp spacing, so you can throw on a few and have a 3 speed cassette if you so desire.

That was just an exaggerated figure of speech..I just meant top-notch reliablility.
and why should an SS bike be any less bling-bling than a geared one? After all, the hub is the essential soul of an single speed.

Damn dude, I've been rocking a Paul's hub in 36 hole guise since late 2001 and I've never serviced it! Oh wait, I tightened the cones once, but that's it! Only downside I can think of is the BMX freewheel. Not too sealed, but at all of about $8 bucks each time I have to change it, how can I lose? In the 3 seasons it's been used, I've had to change out the freewheel twice!

I know of folks who've had great success with the Goliath from PX, and you can't go wrong with Surly stuff IMHO.
