Silva vs GSP is a bad match up for GSP. Silva is HUGE compared to him. They would meet at like 190 as their catch weight. GSP would give up close to 20 pounds and several inches reach. He's not going to take that fight.
GSP has stated that a move to 185 would be permanent and he'd stack on 20lbs of muscle in order to do it. Frankly, I don't know where it would go...maybe in his carry on luggage or something....

Nah, GSP weighs in at 185. He drops to 170 for fights. That's why him versus BJ Penn was such a mismatch. BJ walks around soaking wet and out of shape at 169. So GSP would cut weight to 170 at weigh in and be almost 15lbs heavier in the fight. ;)
The reason I posted it is because it was NEW. As in GSP no longer cuts from 185 but from 193. Read my post ;)

Not to mention Silva is not huge. He often came to fights at 183 and his walk around is 220 with some fat. He cuts max from 200, probably less. There is a reach differance but GSP can wrestle him.

The UFC announced via Twitter on Monday that unbeaten light heavyweight prospect Phil Davis has been tapped to replace Jones against Evans at UFC 133 on Aug. 6. According to multiple reports, newly crowned UFC 205-pound champ Jones suffered a torn ligament in his right hand during his March 19 title win over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 128 and is now set to undergo surgery.
Bummer to hear Jones won't be in the cage smashing Evans, but hope to see Davis do it instead. Much easier fight for Evans to step back into after his injury. The 133 lineup looks pretty lame without Jones heading it though.

I seriously wonder if the LHW division is cursed. All top 3 UFC fighters were injured in a steady row that delayed the whole title run. Though the HW isnt much better.

The article I took the picture from was talking about how he cuts and regains up to 25 pounds in 24 hours. That can't be healthy.
I'm not convinced it is 100% natural either. Regardless of what kind of enhancement or pharmeceutical help I think he may or may not be taking advantage of, it still takes a tremendous amount of work to be in the kind of shape he is in.

he never looks tired in the ring, and always looks like he is about 200 lbs fighting at 170.

As for cutting weight, I always thought the rule of thumb was any more than 7 or 8 % of body weight and you were not in proper shape to make weight.

25 lbs seems completely unhealthy.

I cut about 10lbs for strongman comps a few years ago, and would gain most of that back with in a few hours, and in high school I'd cut maybe 2-4lbs to make weight....but 25 is crazy.

I have never competed based on weight, so I've never tried "cutting", but after seeing the dudes on TUF with the bike in a sauna trying to drop 5 pounds before the morning weight in makes me thing they should just simply change the rules.

You weigh in 2 hours before the fight. If you are a 205lbs dude, then you fight at 205, not cut to 185 the day before. But what do I know?

It would make a difference, and I would be all for it.

That show Sport Science measured his VO2 MAX and found out that when most MMA fighters are at 100%, GSP is only pushing 85%....

Don't know what "most" encompasses but he always looks to fare better than his opponents...
yeah his conditioning is retarded good.

Saw the fights last night... Really was unimpressed with Shields, especially after all the hype. But then again I'm never impressed with submission guys if they cant get it to the ground. He's lucky he clipped GSPs eyeball... it's the only reason he landed sh!t in rounds 4-5.

Best shot of the night was the karate kid... "no can defend" kick. Pretty sweet.

No comments on the latest fights. I have one... boring.
:stupid:

The superman punch KO was pretty bad ass, and it was cool to see Stann win with an impressive showing. But Rampage looked older than me in that fight and that was disappointing. It was cool to see Rick Story (semi-local fighter) fight, but I wanted him to finish Alves.

Big Country will need to drop down to 170 to be affective.

Musle wise he is closer to 185-195 imho (im not talking lmb but mass at 10-15% bf ).

As for rampage - he lost the drive and thinks he is a boxxer while he only counts on that power shot. That makes him a bit of a one trick pony. I miss the days of Slampage.

In other news,

Nick Diaz signed an 8-fight deal w/ the UFC...enables him to fight in the UFC and Strikeforce.

And his next fight will be UFC137: GSP V. Nick Diaz.

Jon Jones will be fighting Rampage for his first title defense.

Don't count Diaz out, he has beat many dudes that were supposed to drop him.

Jones is going to make Rampage rethink his career choice. They just replayed the title fight against Shogun tonight and that dude is scary.

One slam attempt in 2 years is nothing. Not to mention before he KOed Chuck he was using his wrestling, not only striking. Im suprised he doesnt use it anymore. With his power he could easily do it if he got a good training camp instead of training with Bisping. Its not like Page likes Jabfests anyway.

Rampage was never quite the same after he did those K-1 fights. I think it went to his head and he started thinking he was a kickboxer.

A very flatfooted plodding kickboxxer. Hell I like Page but his recent fights are snoozefests. Hamill was a bit better but nothing really special.

Man, Carwin's face looked awful at the end of that fight. I wanted to see Junior finish him, but he looked fresh at the end of the 3rd. The HW title fight should be a good one. Not a bd card overall, but I still wish it would have been Brock getting the beat down from Junior.

Jesus.... Kongo got so freaking lucky last night. Total lucky punch, and even more lucky that fight didn't get stopped multiple times when he was getting his ass beat. Still the knockout was one of the most scary I have seen... dude looked dead, eyes open and everything.

All fights were pretty good last night, except the Mitrione fight, sure he got a knock out, but all his fights look like glorified tough-man contests to me. I'm glad he beat the douche with his own name tattooed on his own stomach... but they're going to put him up against a top guy pretty soon and he's going to get his ass handed to him.

WTF on the ref last night. Several premature stand-ups when fighters were trying to lock up submissions. I'm all for standing up dudes that are just laying there... but when people have a submission 75% locked up, let it go until they lose it.

I can't wait to see Diaz vs GSP. That's going to be the first real time that GSP is going to be seriously worried about losing. He hasn't fought anybody that could beat him since he beat Hughes way back in the day after losing to him. Diaz can do it. He's got a weird style of fighting and he can take a punch like a girl from a trailer park. If it goes to the ground, he'll sub GSP. Those Diaz boys are ghetto, but they're hella good fighters.

Other than the Wandy match I'm most excited for Faber/Cruz. Both those guys are really entertaining.
