The bike, and I am a sorry piece of crap in the saddle...
Just when I was starting to feel good, riding 2-3 times a week, plus a good long one on the weekend. But the move/relocation, and some new social aspects of being in California (but ahem, that's a different kind of exercise) have conspired to keep me off the bike.
Well, today I paid for it. I'm coughing like a 30-year smoker, and I'll sleep like a rock tonight, that's for sure. But it's so good to be back on a bike, even if I'm not a total fan of the saddle I was sitting on, but lesson learned.

I also discovered that an $850 bike can ride just a well as any bike I've been on lately. Well, the frame anyway, as the parts were all replaced. But it's amazing the quality you get for under a grand. My C50 complete had a 5-figure price tag, and while it's a very different ride, it's certainly not 12 times better than the Felt F95 I rode today. Now I just have to improve the engine...

ha, so true James! Someone once said 'Don't buy upgrades, ride up grades'.

It might have been someone famous, but who cares who actually said it, its true wisdom.

Owner of my favorite bar was talking with me one night about bikes and said what he was once told,

You can work harder and more so you can afford a better bike, or work less and except what you have and get better at riding cause you ride more.

I have some nice bikes, and I choose to ride more then work anymore.

I took a job with the state out of college so I could pursue riding and racing. They only work me 40 hours (occasionally a bit more), and its a structured time so I can plan my rides. Good to hear your back on the bike James! Hope your new lady doesn't mind the riding

yeah you! i it just so happens that i am an hvac (heating ventilation air conditioning) sub contractor and down here in Houston work comes to a complete stop during the winter season so i've already had a month completely off and have about another one month to go so i get to ride a whole bunch, practically everyday and it does help.

now during the regular summer season, i work 8-14 hours per day but i get paid after each job so that is everyday but my riding will be put on the back burner. not the longing to ride, just the time to do so.

I'm pretty sure it was Eddy Merckx, wasn't it?
It's very true though. Being in the industry it's easy to get carried away with cool stuff, and I'm a lot better at not caring as much as I used to. It's hard though, I got into the cycling industry because I loved bikes.

Reflux, we did a loop from the office here, towards Irvine, past that old abandoned Marine base, flatter, as we were doing the "B" ride and trying to stay away from any major hills. My legs were ok, it's just my throat and lungs needed to get used to it again. I felt like I was at altitude, which is weird because until December I lived at almost 5,000 feet.

The nice thing about working for a bike company, is that time is definitely taken to ride. So lunch rides are a given. Soon I'll start riding to work as well, it's about 8 miles or so, all downhill, which means that after work is all uphill. But I found a pretty badass 20 mile loop that will take me to my front door, so when it starts staying lighter later I'll be able to get on that...
