It's no secret that I do not have any great respect for unions. But this is priceless.

As I'm sure none of you are aware, the Societe des Alcools de Quebec (AKA Quebec Liquor commision) has been on strike for a few months now. Through the holidays no less! So people have driving to Ontario to get their booze.

Now how exactly can these guy be unionzed? (gov't job I know)

But these guys are nothing more than 7-11 employees. They are cashiers. At least people who work at the Gap have to know how to fold a sweater.

Han can anyone feel any sympathy for these pansy-asses?

Good thing I'm more of a beer drinker......

The union situation here in Canada is way out of hand. The public sector (government workers) unions think that everybody else owes them a living. They make a point of hitting the picket line whenever it's the most inconvenient for the most people. You can count on postal strikes at Christmas and ferry union and airline strikes on major holidays. And it seems the more unskilled the union the more militant they are. Most Canadians would like to take them all and crush their little heads.

Look at those Air Canada union goofs in Toronto this week. They got busted and caught on video for taking turns leaving work early and punching out each others' timecards. In real life, we call this "stealing from the employer." The administration sent around a letter saying that those who were caught would be suspended and anybody doing it in future would be terminated. So the union local freaks out, claims that this is an "unnegotiated perK" (WTF!!!!!), and calls an immediate wildcat strike, paralysing the airline and stranding hundreds of passengers. This is illegal, besides being absolutely irresponsible. Then they tell the administration that they'll only go back to work if nobody gets punished for the original time-stealing or the illegal strike. We need some good old-fashioned Pinkertons union-busters up here.

That's his skill he gets paid for. Probably quite a lot harder than folding sweaters or selling spirits. :)

Unions have so much power here in Canada that they aren't even embarrassed to do stuff like that; they honestly think that they are entitled to it and don't care who disagrees. And Mack, you're right about the England thing. Most of the loudest, most obnoxious union leaders are old Brits and Scots who had overstayed their welcome in the UK and saw that the pickings are much richer here than at home.
