Now THIS is military action we should all be behind.

I don't know if it'd be better to shoot Joseph Kony in the head and be done with it, or get him strung up by a court for his life and crimes.

There is likely no more evil man alive (for the time being). Coupla the FDLR genocidaires, perhaps, but this guy has to be one of the worst.

Low cost for us, high effect for the region and those people affected by the LRA's acts of horror.

Uganda welcomes US troops to hunt rebel leaders
(AFP) – 39 minutes ago
KAMPALA — Uganda said Saturday it welcomed US combat troops to help its forces battle the Lord's Resistance Army, a brutal rebel force whose leaders are international war-crime fugitives.
"We welcome this gesture -- it has been well overdue," said Uganda's acting foreign minister Henry Okello Oryem.
US President Barack Obama said Friday that 100 troops would help Uganda track down rebel chief Joseph Kony and other senior LRA leaders, but warned they would not lead the fighting themselves.
"For 20 years, the government of Uganda has been pleading with our American and European friends to help in the LRA problem, because these are international terrorists," Oryem said.
"We wanted our friends to help in providing technical support -- such as intelligence -- because they have the best."
LRA rebels are accused of terrorizing, murdering, raping and kidnapping tens of thousands of people in a 20-year war in northern Uganda.
However, in recent years they have shifted to regional nations, causing havoc and forcing civilians to flee their homes.
The mostly special operations forces could deploy in Uganda, South Sudan, the Central African Republic and Democratic Republic of Congo, subject to approval of regional governments, Obama said in a message to Congress.
Uganda's defence spokesman Felix Kulayigye said the first batch of US troops were already in Uganda.
"Some of the forces are already in the country," Kulayigye said. "Their approach is regional -- DR Congo, Central African Republic, South Sudan and Uganda. How far they will go depends on the cooperation arrangements."

Cause it worked so well in Vietnam.

Why now and WTF took so long? Its not like the genocide started last week. While I certainly approve of intervention in this case I find myself suspicious of the motivation given that this has been going on for more than half my lifetime. Does this mean were actually going to start stepping in in places like Darfur?

*edit: Does this make war #4 for President Nobel Peace prize?

I'd like to believe this is a humanitarian cause, and regardless of the real motivations I'm glad it's happening, but the cynic in me says "read this map:"
Part of it is certainly regional stability, I'd wager, but then again, regional instability is part of what lets the coltan keep flowing out of DRC.

I'd guess this is more about what's happening in Somalia and Sudan than about minerals.

Exactly.... this is bull****! America didn't care about the atrocities conducted by the LRA 10 years ago when they were 2000 Strong, so now they're like 100/200 strong, it's very important..... Nice Job, Mr. Obama!
