a freshly serviced boxxer, with new lubrication oil, slick honey, and alittle teflon on the stanchions is buttery smooth, just like my dorado. but you have do put alittle effort into a boxxer servicing it 2-3times a season, and it'll perform for you.


the dorado has been on my bike since the season started. i've had 1 lift day, and 4 or 5 daylong shuttles, still pretty smooth. i'll prob leave it alone until the end of the season, unless there is a noticeable degradation, then send it off to manitou for my free tear-down/rebuild at the end of the season

Plus, if you develop a whole new chassis, you can force obsolescence, while nowadays riders with 06 40s can upgrade their dampers and get most of the performance of a 2011 fork.

i will say that USD forks are generally more reliable, as they push dirt away from the seals instead of towards them...but good seals are always better than bad seals.

my old whitebros dh2.0 were the most reliable forks i've ever owned whether owning to build quality / design or inverted-ness i don't know. amazing. great performing & stiff, though heavy by current standards (8lbs). at a decent weight, i'd rock a modern inverted for sure.

I didnt have a rush at all, they refused to fix it because i wouldn't qualify on it, the guy at fox wanted me to take off my back-up fork (which is a fox) and put the broken one back on, and skip my qualifier. I only wanted the fork for the finals the next day. They could have kept it overnight, didnt matter to me, i was pissed because not only did i spend all the time running to take it off to make my race, i got the shaft in the end by going to my race, so much for "race support" Have to love when a suspension manufacturer tells you to skip a race to fix your fork.

I personally havent had good CS from fox ever, but i do like the products

Im still rocking the Shiver with a Stratos ID cartridge in it, would love Marzocchi even moar if they made a new one with an RC3 style cartridge in them, especially if they made it retrofit the original chassis!

Maybe because they know you'll still throw your money at them regardless of how they treat you. I bet the people who got helped out didn't think of it as "race support", since they (like you) are not factory riders. It's actually a professional service that they do for free at races when they have time.

I dont consider it race support, thats their term.(originally from the GRT, than passed onto diablo) I didnt get any support. I tried a boxxer, didnt love it, dont think im brand loyal for the fun of it.

As far as time, when 3 techs are sitting in lawn chairs, i think at least 1 of them has to have time. Besides, who is actually going to bring a fork to them during the race.

I tried, it basically went like so. alternating between me and fox, starting with me

It isnt leaking anywhere, but it got soft all of a sudden, i can easily bottom it out leaning on it, and it gets about 4 inches of sag, i think its the top out spring, i opened it up real quick to check the spring, and i saw nothing blatently wrong with it.

Well we only fix forks for racers (i'm not racing?) If you want us to fix it, you will have to come back with it mounted on your bike with a number plate

*a guy who will remain nameless informed me after watching the whole incident that he thought my mistake was leaving the crowns on it-he was baffled why they didnt fix it as well. This guy was in charge of a pit VERY close to fox.

i talked to them very nicely, i actually heard alot of good things about fox race support at the GRT races, it shocked me that they decided to start turning people down. the 3 i can account for were legit incidents at the race, all entered in at least the DH.

The (colored)spring in the fork was fine, i think its the platform it sits on, giving the fork a few inches of nothing, until the (colored) spring starts to firm it up, this is only a guess though.

Second, thought I'd post my 2 cents, forwhatever thats worth. Hopefully more rep than I can spend!

I think the reason Fox is making an inverted fork is because they've taken the 40 as far as they reasonably can, and the muppets that buy things always want new stuff. Lets be honest, I'd say that most of the riders out there can't really push a 40 anywhere near its limits of performance. Thats not a dig, just a fact that most of us aren't anywhere near world cup status and skills.

Despite that, the public always wants "improvements." They want the latest and greatest, they want, the next "thing", and they want it in a regular schedule. So, what is Fox (and every other company, incidentally) to do? PRoduce something new for the sake of something new, of course. So why not go inverted?

What I wonder is if they went inverted because they are going air. Fox's air forks aren't the most supple out there, and I have no doubt that using a casing as big as the 40s would introduce a lot of stiction. Inverting it would lube the seals more and help overcome that stiction.

OR

Its inverted because if its upside down, they can reverse gravity, making for a lighter bike.

B. Unsprung weight
C. Reduction in service intervals
D. Elimination of a crown
2. demo 9 may or may not have deserved the treatment but nobody's crying for him because
A. He has a sh*t ton of bikes
B. He has a snowblower attachment for his 4 wheeler
C. He has more bike racks than most people have fingers
D. His mom should have done it for him

In his defense, I will say fork manufactureres have been asking for several years now for riders to take the fork off the bike and bring it to the tent for service, so that I can understand. But the fact that they were prioritizing getting racers with no back up rolling again....was AWESOME! You can send your fork in for actual service at any time demo 9.

Almost every person at that race...if they're taking their fork to a RACE SUPPORT TRUCK at a race, it's because they need that one and only fork for their race run or their weekend is over.

Tuck your little testes back in your throat and box it up like the rest of the world.

As for the fork...can you imagine how freaking excited the technicians at Fox are to get to tweak and ride something different? I bet they go into work early now and maybe even skip a group ride or two, they are so chubbed up!!!

Maybe the solution is to have 3 complete 2012 Pro Demo 8 Evo FRO bikes.

Joking aside you have at least 2 maybe more 40's, learn to service them yourself to deal with having other people do it(or not) for you. I have 1 fox fork and I could service it(minus the FIT damper) after 10 minutes of internet research. With nearly 5k posts on one forum you have plenty of time to spend 10 minutes on fox's website learning how to service your forks.

Have you guys heard of this sport called "Downhill Mountain Biking"? It's where people get together and either shuttle or ride lifts to the tops of peaks, then ride special mountain bikes with lots of travel and disc brakes (!!!) down mountains. In the spirit of camaraderie, riders often congratulate each other (with "high-fives" or "fist bumps") on taking good "lines" - paths through particularly difficult obstacles.

Because I could've sworn I stumbled upon a forum where a group of people who enjoy the same activity in nearly the same way are doing their level best to find differences and argue about everything under the sun. I was under the impression that this place was some meta-exercise in debating semantics and ad hominem attacks.

I bet the guy I met at the Highland Pro GRT who told me he saw smiling in the lift line on race weekends as a sign of weakness posts here.
