I doubt it bro. He was on course qualifying with me at the time of qualifying. After qualifying, they wouldn't let anybody near the course anymore. All the photogs, including Sven(a.k.a. Pornstache) stayed glued to the race course on Sunday. I was all over the rest of that damn mountain like a 17 year old on his first boob though!!!
:agree: :agree:

I laid pipe on that mountain like no other place I've ever ridden. Had around 20+ runs on every other trail out there by 1pm easy. Dominion owned me, but I rang the bell on Exodus, Road to Nowhere (I got hucker credo now!), Alpine, Triple Drop, Dirt Merchant,Reaper, Slayer...you name it.

Not dissing the race, but I could have cared less about qualifying. The question of the weekend was "Who wasted themselves on the rest of the trails, even though they qualified for Pro, because the mountain was the drug?" . I can't tell you how many of the top 60 I saw chasing run after run on the mountain despite having qualified!

You missed the photo op of the weekend though. Jeremy bailed on a friggin ladder bridge over boulders at Alpine with me on his tail. One chucked Demo 8 and two mutant ninja backflips through scree later, I landed on my feet! My Shaolin is strong!

while im not saying that i would have qualified anyways, but i think the reason i was so far off from qualifying was because i did so many runs before my run. next year im registering early so i dont have my qualifier at 4:30.

I overshot a jump playing around before qualifying and KOed myself out of racing but still had the best time riding I've had in many years before that point. We're definitely gonna make it back up there sometime this year. Fun, fun, fun.

I've been icing my shoulder and wrist all day and eating Advil like it's candy. US Open was dope! Props to all the peeps who came out & shredded the Nor'east gnarage! Booyah!! Oh, and the tequila is for those who didn't qualify.

Just made it home. 12 hours of total driving. I had to sleep around 11pm on Sunday night so I slept for 9 hours in the trailer.

Next year, I am not registering first. I had the number 1 plate by default of registering first and had a really sloppy course during qualifing. I stalled out in the off camber rocks and a few other places. Missed the cut by a ton. The course was definately better by am qualifing so don't accuse the top ams of sandbaging based on time alone. Guys that I typically crush at races buried me. Oh well, I had fun freeriding the rest of the weekend. I had about 20 runs on Saturday and Sunday.

I did poach a run during pro practice on Sunday. Holy crap the course was fast when it was dry.

Props to Shawn and the whole crew for the excellent race and freeriding.

Butch here. Damn, did I put faces to names over the last 2 days.
Met Sven, Ska Todd, Fury, Transcend and so many others.
Hey Sven, I'm gonna PM you my phone # so you can get the 411 on us down in Asheville.

As for qualifying. I can't remember who landed 4th but Herndon is in 5th or 6th with Keene right on him. Garrit Beytagh fell in at 8th or 9th.
Only other one I know is Ryan Boch popping into 15th! 3 riders from the South in the top 15...heh.

Qualifying was strange though. Last word was that the Am top time was around 3:18...landing the guy that did it somewhere in the top 30 of Pro? It did dry out a ton by the time the Am's came down but Herndon's time was a 3:05 on decently dry course. For Am to rip a time like that...a shame.

I can honestly say I can't be any happier. I put in so many runs yesterday and today before my qualifier, it was tough even just steering the bike. 3 dead stops on course, 1 being behind a tree, but after seeing what 60th's cutoff time was, I wouldn't have gotten in. SO FUN!!!!!

Me, Jeremy R, SoEast Matt, profro, Bloch, Tom V, motomike, mooney...we just put in run after run after run on all those freaking trails!! There were black marks on the berms by days end. It's hard to even care about the race...
3:15 actually. i am proud of my sandbagging ways

Word, wrist just banged up then?

Thanks again for dinner and tequila, booya indeed. Good times. Also, were you on course for pro finals? The berms echoed with booyas while rando and amiel came down, too funny.

I hear ya.
I am just now feeling the 2 crashes that I had in my qualifying run.
Every muscle in my body hurts, and I think I had some kind of delayed concussion, but it was worth every ache!
I just wish I would have been able to ride Sunday.
I put in a gazillion runs on Saturday closing down the lift and drove 12 hours home on Sunday. The Open rules.

...are you fu@kin' serious?

Mike - I was in 104 w/ my Lady and we heard some weird sh!t going on above...

We were in the part of the place that was being renovated so it was really easy for sound to travel. When I was lying there with her trying to fall asleep Friday night we clearly heard a girl sneeze in the room directly above us... My girlfriend was like "Bless You" and started laughing because you could hear it so well.

You guys went through the 2nd floor to the ceiling of the first???

Anyway - I was the guy in the silver 05' Xterra... I was dressed in black wearing the leather rocker wristband and walking through the parking lot with my lady to get in her Mazda to go to dinner Friday night. SAw a lot of guys out there working on their bikes... didn't know who was who though...

Lol...O.K. now I get it.

I was gonna say - it takes a lot of perserverence to go through concrete... and a lot of Jack.

Frisbee w/ Cougars... lol nice... So technically speaking, what is the difference between a Cougar and MILF?

AHH HAAAHHH!!! That is hilarious. Hey Fraser, I could not find a single person signed up for the the Fraser Fan Club on mountain all weekend. You're more of a marked man than me. Felt good to know I'm not public enemy #1.

To all the monkeys out there that didn't say to the hillbilly from the South in the NoFear kit and the name BUTCH on the back...you missed your shot at me. You'll have to wait another year to get at me.

Oh and Jeremy...that soreness might not be from your wrecks. That soreness might be from the chuckles we were having in the parking lot.

Safe to say the U.S. Open was the 1st premiere MTB event in USA this year?
Much props to the pros that made it out there and lend support to the race.

I'm pretty sure it was safe to say.

Great course, on time, well maintained, well taped and awesome FREE BBQ lunch everyday (burger or hot dog, with cheese or not + potato salad, corn on the cob, chips and choloate bar and drink).

The condos down below are also amazing and basically the entire place just had a great vibe all weekend long with people HAVING FUN. I saw so many guys qualify for the finals (top 60 of 171 pros) riding run after run on the rest of the mountain before during and after race time.

Everything but 1 thing. It was sort of an unspoken thing with all the riders that you could cut in line if it was decently short wait and it was so easy to get separated from your group on the mountain that by the bottom, there were 10 other guys in between you.

Nobody fussed about it which was odd but very courteous and sort of unique compared to other resorts with the lack of anymosity.

But WTF is up with the pubic hair challenged teens who would straight up jack the line as a group? Multiple times I watched groups of follicly challenged punies pop in in teams of 3-4.

One troupe of panty waste popped in front of me and Milby's wife and I checked them. "Where you goin?" "You were standin' there man"
It continued for a sec and the kid was like "I'm not afraid" and me going all testosterone with "You should be" and started to walk toward him before the little genetic spooges would leave.???

ya, was originally bummed about the huge line, but realized 1) no matter how long it the line was it still moved remarkably fast and 2) the long line kept some of the AMs off of the course. can't imagine how bad it would've been if there hadn't been a line and 300 AMs had been trying to ridie the course at the same time...

mass line-cutters should be beaten. :dead:

Here is probably the best visual explanation of our weekend. That's one ugly ass look on my face, but it IS a smile. I just squint in the sunlight alot. This is before our qualifying runs of all things. Grinning, laughing and yucking it up. You'd never even know there was a race about to go down.

Man i was so stoked to see Bennie's name in the results...and not surprised to see him going fast, we were teammates way back on Barracuda mid 90's, he was so fast before he got on Barracuda, and after as well. anybody know what he's up to these days or have any contact info for him? pm me please...his sponsor was listed as "old world plaster"? i'm sure it's some business he doing.

A shame that he wasn't racing pro? I think it's hard to judge what class you should be racing if it's your first time on a course and not sure where you would stack up.
