i´ve got a 128mb imation usb drive.
problem is, when i plug it in.. it takes several minutes to be recognized by windows (tho it makes the "new hardware connected" sound instantly). the makes the explorer window not respond for a couple minutes. then after it recognizes the drive, i cannot access.
i get an error message, along the lines (translated from spanish) "could not reach the stop-light".. then it sends the explorer window back into not responding.

what can i do about that? i have a backup of the drive, so the data doesnt really matter. but i want to use it again.

it has not been around any strong magnetic field or anything. its not been manhandled either. i use it as a keychain for the uber-geek look.

this one, but in red. i dont know if there has been a recall or something.

Two questions:

Do other USB drives (and possibly other USB devices) work in this computer?

Does that USB drive work in other computers?

For the price of 128mb USB drives, it's toasted. Throw it away. There's just about nothing you can do with it, might be a poor connection somewhere or bad firmware.

Seriously, NewEgg.com has 128mb USB drives for ten bucks. Chuck it :)

Can't get it shipped to South America?

Global Priority mail is five-ish bucks for me. PM me if you want to figure out something. For 32 bucks you can do a lot better than a crappy 128mb drive.

Small USB drives are becoming almost disposables now. I saw some being given away by a company that has nothing to do w/ tech...Danon maybe...?
Microsoft just gave a batch away, and car companies are sending them out instead of printing full color brochures. Apparently the flash memory has become cheaper than the printing and shipping costs associated with large pamphlets.

Lexus, BMW and Audi have all done batches of 32mb drives with the brochure PDF on them. Crazy.
