I think the fork oil, Golden Spectro makes a 7 wt oil thats labeled for marzocchi forks. Can i use this specific type of fork oil in my Fox Vanilla R fork??? I have this oil available to me at the moment thats why I am considering this option instead of ordering Fox Oil.

Oil is oil I've always thought, so I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work. However, you'll probably want to get a more definite answer from someone with more experience.

Fox doesn't recommend using any other oil than their own because it will void your warranty. If you are going to go through with it make sure the oil is not seal swelling or petroleum based. My recommendation don’t do it and order the fox oil.

Thats bad, a good enough reason for me not to buy fox forks.

As long as the fork oil is the same weight as the stuff fox uses it should be ok.

Wrong.

The seals may be designed to work with an oil of a certain chemical composition. Oil weight has NOTHING to do with chemical compability.

I wouldn't be too concerned about it, as long as it's fork oil. For instance I've always used RS, Marzocchi, and aftermarket oils in all types of forks (except Fox, never had a chance to try it).

If I had one I wouldn't worry about it, it's mostly a marketing thing "ONLY BUY OUR STUFF, ALL ELSE IS CRAP"

I've never had an issue using RS oil in a Marz fork. Like one other person had mentioned before it's all about what the oil is made of. Fork oil is basically mineral oil...very similar to what magura and shimano use for their brakes! Some other companies add things to theirs and that is why some are not friendly to all forks. Granted they are very different weights! Also Fox tells you to use their oil so it makes their life and many consumers so that you do not make the mistake of using the incorrect oil. If you don't know what you are really doing(like this is the first time you are changing the oil on a fork) then order the Fox oil. Good luck.

RockShox oil will not work in Marzocchi forks- the seals will swell and pop.

The two best fork oils I know of are golden-spectro and fox anyway, so you should order it.
I personally have three Marzocchi forks and have always used RS oil in them, because it's cheaper to buy 5wt and 10wt, and mix them than to buy 7.5 marz. oil. I've never had a problem and people have always commented that my forks are smooth.

I've been doing this since 2000, and never had a seal problem or increased stiction.

I've used golden spectro in everything... fox, 'zocchi, manitou and RS.....

no problemo!

most manufacturers say the same thing ... don't use anything other than their parts.... part liability issue, part marketing gimmick......

two scents,

After seeing plenty of forks in my shop, I now carry as many brands of oil for suspension products. I've had warranty issues with all major brands of forks(rs, manitou, marz, fox) and to my exprience I would suggest that you use oil designed for your fork. The reason is this, each company uses detergents and other little chemicals in their own forks. If there is an issue that may be a warranty concern, and the fork is filled with marzzochi oil instead of rs(for instance) and they can trace the problem back to the oil, they will not warranty the fork. And believe me, they know the difference between oils. If you want to fill your fork up with other oil than original manufacturing specs, remember that you will void your warranty(read the owner's manual if you don't believe me!) It will work though.

I just changed the oil in my Fox Float RL. I used a mixture of 5wt and 10wt. I don't even remember what kind it was, but I know it wasn't fox. Should I drain it again and refill it with fox fluid?
