I like WTB razor blades the best. Kool stops are pretty nice too. Anything but XTR. They are like flint rocks.

From my experiences, they all are about the same. I buy $8 shimano pads and they seem to do as well as the $30 ones I bought one year.

I need to buy 4 sets so I'll probably just go cheap. Well maybe I'll get a good set for my GF's bike and some cheapo's for my HT road bike...

i'm getting along just dandy with Wim Ranglers IIs.

I just pulled the rears off my x-bike, and they had flakes of the rim(velocity) imbedded in them. The fronts seem to be OK -- different rim, though.

The rears didn't last long, but I have been pulling the kids in their trailer with the x-bike.

are they old pads? as in need to be replaced? i noticed that in pads over the summer. i thought it was a "warning sign" that the pads needed to be replaced. thought it was kinda weird, but went with the flow.

Yeah, they are worn down to the groove.

I was wondering if avid put the metal in there for warning purposes.
no - they don't
