V10 floating brake question

I have a V10(old style) with the floating brake. On the link that the brake arm connects to there is the hole that the brake arm bolts to and there is another hole just under that one. Is this another mount for the brake arm or something else? What's up? thanks

I believe one position was for full floating and the other inputed a slight squat...but I am not sure.

apparently ^that^ is the effect of the different mounting positions. i only ran mine in the parallel, lower position (neutral, apparently). then i pulled the floater off & found the braking performance difference didnt reallly justify the exra weight (for me). the wc race team seemed to feel the same way - none of the team ran the floater either.

and considering how close its mounted to the rear triangle pivot. If it was on that pivot point, you'd have no floater at all.

I think (according to Acadian, so it must be right) that the floater is only effective in something like the last three inches of travel- if you are braking then, well...

ive cycled those frames several times, without a shock, many times and stared lots of times at how the floater moves in relation to the rest of the frame, and from what i could understan, it would seem that the floater doesnt float much at all in the last third of travel, only floats somewhat during the middle portion, and that it floats in the first third.
then again the sag point is at one third the travel so maybe thats why people take it off.
anyways it changes its behavior -to my eye at least- completely during the bikes compression cycle.

It's technically impossible to make a true floater for a VPP bike, you'd have to have a little "mini" VPP linkage to mimick the larger one to keep the brake forces parallel to the (virtual) pivot point.

Canna change the laws of physics.

What if you had a little helium balloon tied to the brake arm? I reckon that'd float pretty well. Or maybe leprechauns holding it up?

actually, i think we can do it using the real Laws of Physics, and not Jms version...

haha yeah, I was thinking, you'd need a full size VPP linkage at some slightly offset location (but not rotated or anything) relative to the original linkage to get the PHULL PHLOATING EFFECT, right? And even then, one could argue that nobody really cares.
