I'm getting close to buying a v10 and I am wondering if there are any differences worth noting between the 02,03,04 ?? actually, this is for my 14 yr old brother who rips and has been DHing on a LeToy. It's time for him to have a full suspension.

One that I am very intersted in is an early 2003. it was bought in Nov of 2002.
It was bought brand new as a complete bike and never ridden since then. Is $2500 a good price? it had all bad ass parts (hayes Mag, Haldeys, XTR, floater, 321's, intense rubber, thompson, 5th w/ Ti) the only bad part is the fork. it is a Boxxer Race (no adjustability). if i sell the race for $250 and put another $750 with it to buy an 888, my new total will be $3500. it isnt a steal at that point i dont think.

what should i offer for this bike? and are there things to know between the model years?

thanks,
joel

i would stay away from 02s but the 03 and 04 v10 are pretty solid. as for the bike your looking for the set up seems pretty good, offer $2250 as see what happens, also have him try out the boxxer race, he might find out that its an ok fork for him. i have had a few v10s and will say that they are great bikes, especially my new one.....

edit: as far as rear end stiffness i think some of thats due to the pinch bolts they have added. 02 no pinch bolts, 03 4 pinch bolts, 04 all pinched, 05 all pinched

That price seems high. Since the new "05" V10s have hit the market the older models value has dropped dramatically. A few of my friends sold their similarly tricked out 04 V10s recently but got beaten down on price pretty badly. I think $1900 was the sales price for both of them, with their original asking price around $2500. A quick review of online classifieds will give you an idea of current market value.

Joel, The V10 is deffinately nice, but I would seriously check out some of the Iron Horse bikes. They completely rip and the parts are out of this world for the price. For your bro's first FS, it might be a better to get some quality components that he can transfer as he progresses, quits growing, and tries lots of different bikes. $3500 is alot of dough. I think you can get upper end IH DH bike with killer stuff for around $2000.

That price seems a bit high. I myself bought a 04/03 V-10 about a month ago. (04 Front triangle/03 rear), anyways, mine is spec'd with Atomlab front wheel, Hadley/RhynoLite rear wheel, 02 Shivers, 5th with 350Ti, floater, Hayes Mags, Holzfeller bb/crank/guide, ProTaper bars, Shorty stem, XTR derailleur, e.13 bashguard, DK sealed bearing pedals, new maxxis tires, pig headset, ea50seatpost, and I paid $2300 for it....

If its in good condition I'd say go for it but considering its older I'd probably try to get the price as close to $2000 as you can. If you cant get it any lower, I would search around a bit more for a 03 or 04 complete because you can get them spec'd about the same for a similar price to the one you're currently paying.

EDIT, Supergo has the DH Pro for $1400!!!!!!!!!

With all that left over dough he can buy some good body armor and a Troy Lee D2 or take a trip to Whistler. :)

Actually, I just checked Supergo, and the model with a Boxxer Race is only $1400. The other two models are $2200 and $2900, with a Boxxer Team and World Cup, respectively.

I do not know about Santa Cruz but every time I read about the Iron Horse customer service it makes me want to buy one of their bikes.

hes already got a d2 carbon courtesy of joel's fat hookups. Yeah joel that price seems a little steep on the v10 Id keep looking around and i agree to check the IH bikes out. Also I think SC is LIQUIDATING brand new 04 v10s off their website frames only. You might check it out and just transfer jordan's parts over from his le toy. Also be warry about an 888r 8in on an older v10 i think it makes some OUTRAGEOUS headangle.

anyway best of wishes and you gotta get jordan setup for the ADHCS champoinship the junior champion is gunna come down to the very last race!!
ARGHHH jordan is ahead still by a few points I shouldnt have skipped that first race!!!!

it's like 3200 and has a lot of badass...I mean badass...parts on it.

Anyway I think the only dramatic change was to the 05...maybe a few minor ones to the 04 (somethin about bolts).

I have an 03 and freakin love it.

And v10's are better then demo9's and whoever thinks otherwise is stupid.

i went back up to the bike shop to look at the early 03 V10 and the only pinch bolts that i saw on the suspension was on the upper swing link. i saw no pinch bolts on the actual frame.

can someone send me a pic of their frame with the 03 pinch bolts?

this bike is for sale by owner, not the bike shop so there will not be sales tax. i'm not really open to the IH bikes btm but thanks.
