Thought so too, but on the slomo replay nothing was to be seen. He looked to be sliding a bit off line just before, so my guess is a direct rock hit.
Also GM loosing so much time in the last section was a bit weird. Looked like he was riding in pain. Maybe his ankle like mentioned by Rob Warner?

What a race...those were some of the worst crashes I've ever seen all in one race. Hope everybody is more or less OK, esp EJ as that was a savage shot to the noggin.

That was both brutal and awesome to watch. So many horrific crashes, some very wild riding with just a touch of Wild Bill's Goodbye Horses. Jaw hit the floor watching Greenlands run. Big ups to Kerr for showing the selectors what's up, his huge whip-huck off the Trentino sender was wild. Daddy Longlegs rox the Rux onto the box. Remi shattered his Shox? If Danny was playing NBA Jam he'd be "on fire". What was that coming out of Gwins tire? looked like a road tubular ala "brocore", or possibly a just a white snake that snuck it's way onto the #blacksnake. Ratboy has officially gone full-hippy, Pon Holdings should just buck up and get the Syndicate an electric-hybrid carbon neutral pirate vessel with floating sustainable organic garden/bong shed to travel the world cups spreading the love and drinking water. Wishing a speedy recovery for all the injured riders, spectators, (snakes?) and retinas burned by sneaky trackside buttocks, sex dolls and tuck jobs.
The guys at Mondraker must be happy with that result. Top 3 positons... Wonder if that will translate to sales or not.

Also, although I'm always defending the quality of our free coverage - what was going on with the editing, camera guys and the timing? Were the rider intervals crazy short? We missed seeing a lot of the top guys runs, so I'm guessing the editors might have struggled with short intervals or something? Then we had cameras on all sorts of weird stuff instead of the riders and for a third of the race the on-screen timing wasn't working for us or the commentators.
Still beats watching the live timing website and wondering what the heck was happening though.

Carpenter's crash looked rough, but that Spanish guy who overshot the final stepdown? Jeezus I though he was dead 12" short of the finish line.
UCI needs to upgrade the low-end swiss timing, maybe splurge a little and try Casio?
Would be fun when it comes time to decomission the system too, could really "blow up" some berms.
One on hand, I'm like "I hope he's not dead". Then on the other "I wonder if his limp flailing arm broke the finish line beam and if he got a time"
Given the hot seat for 3rd was vacant afterwards, I have a feeling he might have podiumed unconscious.
*edit* According to Vital, Bersselaar stopped the clock into 4th place. Also, apparently no major injuries. Which is amazing, because the way he looked I half expected two vets to walk out with a sheet and a shotgun...
