Yeah, I'd say it's still a stellar result for Gee, and in no way signals the end of his domination this year. He still beat all the other regular podium contenders and UCI point-leaders that are in the hunt for the overall. Remi's run was simply amazing. In fact, I think I'll go watch it again.

While you're at it, watch Gee's run too. Pay particular attention to the mistake he makes in the secnd to last corner (just after Remi's hero line)
not quite sure how everyone's missed it but running wide and getting messy enough have to unclip to dab your outside foot has gotta be a second lost at least.
Gee looked a little pissed after crossing the line and rightly so.

Giove, was never able to REALLY touch A-C Chausson. Marla Streb and Leigh Donavan, couldn't touch A-C either. Rachel now seems to be the heir apparent in the women's field. What's weird is that there is a good 10 year hole between A-C Chauson and Rachel Atherton. What was actually going on in that period?

Marla actually did beat A-C a couple times. I was over her house a couple days ago and tried to get her husband to sell me this old Foes they had in a closet and he said "Marla will never get rid of that bike because it's the only one she ever beat A-C on." Granted A-C's win percentage was much greater but Marla did get her a couple times.

Well, i'm not a doctor and i guess it's pointless to argue about what could have happened to him or how effective a neck brace would have been at averting it, but just look at that crash: anything that prevents such a sensitive part of your body from getting compressed and bent so much is a good safety measure in my book.

it is neat though, to see different tire sponsors being successful. Also, Gwin's understudy has been nipping at the heels of the podium for the last couple races. It's great to see him doing well on the bike that Gwin can't convert.

Despite the sarcasm it's actually an interesting point. The 2 bikes that Gee has had an input on the design/geo are betterer at winning than anything else at the moment....

I think it's actually a good sig that Giwn is wrecking in qualifying and finals or shooting off course. It means he's not playing for 2nd, he's actually chomping at the bit to win.

Watching those finals made me feel like not too many guys took huge risks to get in the #1 spot except Remy. They all look survivalists, but I think that is a testament to the brutality of that track.

The risk of riding it in one piece far outweighed the risk of chancing a stupid line to move up the pecking order a few spots.

really, I keep hearing how Demo's dont win shiz (Well, who gets podiums on a big stage with something other than an SC, GT, or some boutique brand.) But does a Demo really suck that much? The people I know riding them like them, but are they unaware that its slowing them down?

My v10 def wants to go super fast; faster than I can handle - where does a Demo land in that spectrum?


Congrats to Remy for being a beast and making this his; this track looked soft from preruns, but the RedBull video makes it look SCARY tight and fast.

The demo is very quick. It requires no thought or work to make it go balls to the wall fast. And its a totally viable bike for world cup wins. Its won before and it'll win again. Gwin just seems to be struggling to adjust to the shorter stays. Tbro is still pretty happy on his by the looks of his results. One of the fastest bikes I've ever ridden as much as I like to make fun of how much faster treks are on this forum.

You guys can bullshlt about the bike all you want but the fact of the matter is that gwin put out a video stating he thought he was the fastest rider in the world.

You can't argue with science. And that's just as good an explanation as blaming it on a bike that won a world championships, and quite a few podiums (with even more podiums if helium face has anything to say about it).

Gwin was definitely uber self confident. That's what I understand.

The demo is fast, no question. Also, the GT and the Wilson have short chainstays (430mm). So you can't really blame the CS I think, eventhough there are other factors like riding style and suspension systems (higher pivot point, LR, etc.)

What amazes me is the fact, that the Commencal team is riding an air shock and are winning with it. After a bit of research I know it wasn't the first win on an air shock, but on that track? BOS seem to have their sh!t together...

To start with: 4 World Champs (two junior and two senior), and various podiums - but you are right that bike is totally crap and the blackbox treatment makes it even worse!

Back to the topic: Great to see Sam back on form and super stocked for Remy - one of the nicest guys in the hole ciurcuit!

Will be interssting to see if Gwin can put a good one togther in MSA (the track where he stared to shine some years ago back in the Yetis Days)

No neckbrace ever worked for my. Whatever I tried I always ended up looking at my balls. Not the safest way to ride.

I know it sounds crazy but did anyone else think Minnaar should have lowered his seat a couple inches. Looked like the saddle was controlling his position of the bike. He kind of looked limited in his movement because the seat was in the way. He generally runs a good bit of seat post but looked like maybe this was one course where he could have done with it a little lower....

Believeing and saying you are the best is what every top competitor should do. It brings out the best in themselves and it brings out the best in their competition. You'd rather beat a well trained, highly motivated group of riders than a bunch of drunken huckers.

Sometimes you are off your game and it doesn't work out. DH has proven to be a sport of streaks. When you're ON...you're sooooo on. When you're off, it's just barely off but steamrolls you to the point of insanity. No matter what you try to get back on track, you're so derailed it is maddening.

If I recall the Gwin interview correctly, it was Clay Porter who said he was the best rider in the world, and Gwin went along with it. Would anyone have disagreed at the time?

And yeah, you have to have that confidence.

As for the Demo, I think it's funny that people think that there is some correlation between what works for a WC pro and what works for joe blow. Your average Demo owner is 25% slower than Gwin, and that's on tracks that are a lot easier than WC tracks. Therefore joe blow's bike should rightly be quite different than Gwins.

My guess is that his Jesus-Ninja mind control skills are failing and he's feeling the pressure enough that it has become self-defeating. And it's not hard to see how the pressure would increase with each bad result, which is especially tough given the time between races.

The alternative is that he truly doesn't care and is just cashing in because after a couple years he'll be on to something else. But I want to give him more credit than that.
