I just got my 2003 Vanilla 125RLC in the mail (bought new from someone who didn't use it). And it says can take 160-180mm disc brakes and dont use bigger ones but do 185mm avid brakes work on it with an adaptor or will they fit?

Thanks

They do work, and will fit. I just went through this with my fork. Brian at Fox told me that while they do not endorse the use of the 185mm, he knows plenty of people who do, and they work fine. If you go bigger than this, the risk is breaking off the back tab on your drop out and the wheel pulling out! :dead: :monkey:

I'm running 8" on my vanilla, I guess that is a bad thing but they stop so darn well. Avid's come with the only adaptor you'll need, installation is super simple once you figure it out. I'd go ahead and get the 185mm, afterall that extra 5mm doesn't add up to a whole lot, if you adjust your caliper so that it rides a little deeper on the disc you can get that 2.5mm back.
