Any Monkeys living in Las Vegas?
If so, how do you like it?
Did you relocate & how does it compare to where ever else you have lived?

The reason I am asking is, I have made it through 2 rounds of phone interviews & am now being flown out for what I am thinking is going to be the last round. The job will be fkn awesome.
Decent money, working for a handful of international brands, it will look great on my resume/reel & provide me with some great experience. But kind of apprehensive about the whole Vegas experience. For instance where I live now we have a walkability score of 90, there are more pubs, restaurants & coffee shops in a 1 mile radius than I should visit in a day. OUr neighborhood now has been here since the late 1800's & has tons of character.
But on the other hand I have never lived in a house that was built in my lifetime, which has some appeal (had to 'bang' on the the furnace this AM to get it running >.<).

I know the outdoor recreation in the area is right up our alley & it is closer to where we want to end up (the West Coast) but would like to get some 1st hand opinions from folks that live there or have lived there.

THANKS!

I've had family living there for the past 20yrs and have visited often.
Economically depressed $hithole full of dreamers and flat-billed toothless losers (family included).
Basically a touristy Phoenix.

Proximity to cool parts of the West is only upside; nearly negated by proximity to LA.
Bootleg and Red Rock aren't THAT cool.

Thanks for the reply.
Should have prefaced the post with the fact that we are in Wisconsin now.
Hate the cold. Dont like their versin of rednecks either.
But yeah, have heard sorta the same things from others, just in different words.
If it wasn't a fantastic career move I wouldn't even consider it.
All I know is, it is time for a change.

Yeah, I know you're in Milwaukee.
The winters are brutal (lived in Chicago 8yrs) but the summers in Vegas are brutally hot.
Cost of living is cheap but culture is So-Cal strip mall, with the sprawl and traffic to match.
The culture (lack of) is what drives me crazy about the place.

That said you could live well there with a decent job and use the experience to springboard onto better things after a few years. With an adventure ready vehicle to escape on weekends, you could keep yourself entertained with outdoor diversions.

So Cal
You get to bang a lot of hookers, I mean showgirls, who are broken down and have lost all hope.

I have friends who live there. One is a lawyer who makes a good living defending hookers. One is a cop who makes a decent living busting hookers.

The only thing I can really gather from talking to them is that Vegas is HOT. Freaking hot.

Yes. It is the only place I have experienced 108º.
....& I wouldnt suggest BLC in full DH gear, or even just shorts & a tshirt in June. :dead:

Im over here now
my family had a condo there but i absolutely hated the city. i honestly didnt like anything about the city and suburbs. i could deal with the heat if the place didnt suck so much
with that being said, my brother just moved out there and loves it...but since hes in show business and gambling, its right up his alley.

I lived there for 8 months. I had to get teh **** outta there to avoid ending up dead in a gutter.
And I was working as a lawyer there. It was a bad trip.

But if you're less prone to vices than I am, I say go for it. All else fails, you're a Vegas ex-pat with some good stories.

Here.
Really enjoy it so far. It aint all strippers & casinos either.
Did 3 peaks in 3 weekends recently. The hiking is really awesome. Only ridden trails once & I was so outta shape I almost vomitted on myself. Need to hit 'em again since I am in better in shape now. Skiing is OK (waaaaay better than WI). We Havent had the time go explore the skiing in Cali or UT but Im sure the skiing there is way better.

Shopping for a DH bike soon...maybe.

Boulder City and Henderson are ok. I've been here since New Years and love Boulder City. No gambling, a massive lake and great riding at Bootleg. Hot springs are close as is tons of hiking and moto. I can't complain about the winter here, no way I'm staying for summer though.

All I know is that Red Rocks is AWESOME. So you should move there based on that alone.

Edit: Welp. Looks like you did... so... big gulps huh?

Hiked to Arizona Hot Springs down by the CO River last weekend. Pretty sweet place. Gonna plan a backpacking trip there soon.

I'm waving. Can you see me now?
Vegas is radical. Climbing and biking are awesome there. It gets hot but you just need to go higher up mountains to for better weather. Plus you are like 3 hours from St. George and Zion and 10 minutes from Red Rocks.
