Yeah, it should work the same way.

If you are going to be spending that kind of money get something nicer on eBay.

But that’s just me. I got my Canon GL1 on eBay with a ton of accessories for $1200 shipped.

No, it doesn't work the same way as MiniDV.

-The video is uploaded to your computer via an ethernet cable rather than a firewire cable.

-You are limited to "up to 20 minutes" of footage on a mini disc.

-The format is inherently inferior to MiniDV. It's MPEG2.

There are MUCH better cameras available at lower price points. You can get a compact 3 chip (CMOS) video camera for significantly less. (http://www.pricescan.com/electronics/items/item523718.asp?sid=G5110722)

I'm with him... you can get a nice miniDV cam for about half that price! or get a 3chip for that price... if you choose to get a regular miniDV you can get a bunch of nice accessories with the money saved!!! like a wide angle lens, extra batteries, an aux. light, bag and still have money left over!!!
