He's a fire fighter. In Canada that is a better job than most pro mountain bikers would get, I would think.

Excellent pay, excellent benefits, excellent pension and if they are on 24 hour shift, he probably only works 7 days per month.

Yeah, I can't imagine wanting a different setup than what he's got. He's already got sponsorships to cover new toys, great pay from a real job, and a schedule that lets him ride stuff he wants to. And not just on the weekends.

cool to see steve / remy / yo collaborating & feeding off each other. local tech / gnar progression is going off right now.

seeing a (momentarily) quiet / pensive yo highlights just how serious these lines are. steve is a beast.

Watched that this morning. Got me rethinking my preference for Vermont. I always thought that area was more xc focused, but it seems they are developing their 'fun' trails a lot more. Could be worth a weekend trip this spring...
The Shanahan area of Vallee Bras du Nord gets a definite 10/10 recommendation from me, I'd say check it out.

The nice thing about that particular area is that you can camp for super cheap onsite or rent a cabin/yurt. You have access to the river for swimming, there is lots of hiking, biking (everything from family friendly stuff to double black gnurrr), kayaking, via ferrata and whatever else is in the area. There is also no cell service, which is nice to be disconnected from.

Only downside is no dogs and you have to pay to use the trails, but that seems normal for most places in QC.

But yeah, a lot of the trails are xc'ish, in the sense that you need to pedal everywhere. Maybe you can call it enduro riding? Some trails, like that bigass waterfall or the trails beside it are what I'd call enduro - 260meter climb followed by a 260meter descent. :)

The "full" Neilson loop out there is a great day ride. https://www.trailforks.com/route/full-neilson-trilogy/

I've gone three times and would go again.

Yeah, that Full Neilson is what I'm weary of. A few of my buddies have been a few times and raved about it.

But the way I see it is I can do full day epic rides at home. If I'm going to drive for 5 to 6 hours for a weekend getaway, I'm looking for something different to. I love Vermont because the trails and terrain are different. What I really like are the extended downhills. I also like Vermont beer, and the quirky local culture.

All that said, I suppose I should give that area a try. Can't knock it till try try it. I especially am interested in the Sentiers du Moulin and that Area 57 (or whatever it's called) in the video. Those seem right up my alley.

Vermont is like A ball compared to Quebec....

Yeah very true, gotcha about Vermont just being different.

That full Neilson route I linked to can easily be chopped up into 3 different rides. Neilson East has a very long descent, you basically climb 400 meters and then go back down, with a small climb somewhere in the middle. The was another double black trail off of this, which added another 100 meter climb/descent and it was AWESOME, but seems to have completely disappeared from all documentation...

Neilson North is pretty epic. Some great technical riding where you follow the river for a good while - so many good places to stop and enjoy the views, eat lunch, have a beer etc.

I didn't ride Sentiers du Moulin much, as the new area with Wolverine and others were all closed from a massive storm that rolled through. But what I saw and rode was great. Lots of XC trails and then the enduro trails - climb to the top, ride to the bottom and then climb back up.

Empire 47 looks cool. Will definitely check that place out next time.

Correct. Nothing here at all. Please not to bother coming.
I guess it all depends on perspective. You're close to VT, and I'm close to QC (like, maybe 300 yards away). Familiarity breeds contempt?

not Vermont, but the riding I've done in N. New Hampshire and in the White Mtns. was stellar.
Interesting. Please carry on...

I'll add that I prefer VT and NH for the more remote feels of some network, The Quebec stuff while nice and fun is more in line with a theme park mentality. Pay (a lot) to play and enjoy the crowds. Like KTA basically.

My vote goes to North Conway

^^^ Unreal stuff being built up there the last few years. But, unfortunately along with that comes the crowds. Weekend parking can get crazy. Although, not so noticeable once you’re on the trails. And hopefully with all the parking for the Hurricane trails being moved to Cranmores parking lot, it should be loads better this year.

Except when it's Lopes. That guy is rad and as far as I'm concerned can park where and how he likes

The only Quebec riding I have done was at 30 below F and I enjoyed it. I have a lot of stuff up there on my want to ride list.
ooof, that's cold. I'm not really into riding when it's colder than -20°C (-4 freedom°). There's a whole world of riding out there that I've yet to explore.

and to get us back on topic (apologies for the thread drift)
That has some bloody ridiculous stuff in it. The hesitation and fear is very real. Awesome vid.
Has this been posted yet? Seems they are approaching "the line"...

Remy makes shit look so easy. It's hard to tell from him videos some times. But when Barelli is struggling with some of his lines it puts things in perspective.

Not crazy on "park" riding but lots of shenanigans, over-clearing, blatant and horrific berm destruction and the final send to flat is one of the worst poundings I've seen outside of PornHub.

Those bikes are so quiet, especially the Demo. No matter what I do I still seem to have the odd clank and rattle. Obviously the reason I'm not as fast as those guys.

It's not MTB but I need to see the doco, we don't have anything like the Baja 100 here I don't think.

A bit biased here cos I've ridden with this dude a few times and he's a mad bastard. A bit less action, but good skids and attitudes.

Sure there's banter and some slow mo and such, but there's some sick DH bike riding going on in this here video.

This was a fun watch, but it seems to underline Sam's comments in the Downtime podcast that he's got no local trails to properly ride a DH bike.

It was also cool to hear in the podcast that Sam's been doing a fair bit of digging.

i've ridden all that stuff (ok, haven't actually attempted / cleaned ALL the lines, there's some fully gnurr bits in that zone), but to ride that ALL in one day - on a hardtail - is just badass (the required climbing alone...). i like the dude as a presenter, but he's earned xtra respect as a proper hard rider.
