if he complied from the beginning, he would be alive today.
It's such bullshit when people say this, like at a traffic stop, whatever. Human reactions in those high-stress situations are completely off-the-wall. The cop saying "don't resist", or "show me your hands" or whatever, isn't even heard by the other person. Shouting loudly often makes no difference (dumbass that thinks if he's louder the person will "comply"). I've studied human reactions in high-stress situations and people due wacky shit. They aren't hearing or seeing what the cop thinks they are. They don't deserve to die because of this. To be blunt, that's a cop-out. That's like saying, "just be calm", oh, sorry, I don't have total control over my emotions like you do, I'm nervous as fuck. I don't deserve to die for that.

I bet if AOC jumped out of an ANTIFA anarcho syndacalist commune and demanded to collect due taxes, most Republicans would evacuate their bowels and uncontrollably demand an air strike.

If American and other European colonial societies weren't inherently racist and built on the original sin of slavery, then cops wouldn’t be racist dicks, and there wouldn’t have been any protests.

I am encouraged by the stamina of the protesters. I hope you can start talking about reparations, and other meaningful changes but a quick glance at the comments in Fox, even the NYT and here, also shows there is a long way to go before people understand that we are all 99.9% identical. We are all humans. It’s that simple.

I can’t totally argue with that point JBP, but other societies have done a much better job of acknowledging and accounting for it. My country for example has paid billions in reparations to Māori and has a permanent tribunal to resolve historic grievances. Most of our society had decided to own our shared heritage and be proud of it, and it makes a massive, massive difference. We’re not perfect by any means but, to address a particularly pertinent point, we can ‘police by consent‘, not by force.

I agree that societies have struck different balances. (colonial) NZ's relationship with the Māori is better than most, but continues with agreeing to one thing then doing another, e.g. fishing rights.

This is, no doubt, a critical thinking problem. An educational — contextual — issue. Viz; lack of.

For the herd the last thought, and especially the last strong emotion that is still perceived becomes the decision point, just like donnie himself.

The lack of an ability to form a rational and moral position because of poor analytical thinking and even poorer historical recall. The triumph, and almost joyful surrender to slight of hand and twisted arguments, false equivalence, straw men, gaslighting, enabled by broad and deepening ignorance. Easy answers to complex and scary problems. Sky fairies and conspiracy.

Fellow humans; If you can’t get anything else done, fund education, and a modern, progressive curriculum at that.

I love how a referendum on an incompetent fascist brat has become a moral question about the other guy.
As an immigrant stealing your jerbs, this is pretty much my view. You've got to have some fucked up morals to either not vote, vote for some random on the presidential line versus complaining about Biden when the current orange incumbent is orange, racist, fascist, sexist, corrupt, etc etc.

This.

Biden wasn't even my 5th choice in the primaries, yet here we are. The choice is pretty simple, and if you're having a hard time making it, you're part of the problem.

I frequent another forum and someone *actually* posted this:

"I guess, I just look at it like its a choice between 2 evils. Which one is less "evil"?"

  :disgust1:
That's what colin kapernick said in 2016. Hope you're happy colin!

Sorry shitheads, you're gettin one of them. Pretending that someone crop dusting you is the same thing as being buried in a pit toilet ain't too smart.

"I'm not going to work today because the carpet is not the color I would have chosen"

There's probably something interesting there, if you have an instagram acct and can see it.
It’s nothing spectacular. Just a young man with a fake ballot deciding between Don and Joe, with clips of each of them saying stupid stuff followed by the guy moving the pen to check the box for the opposite candidate.

Progressives need to realize they have no chance as long as citizens united is in place. If they want change they need a strategy. Work with moderates to make the changes that moderates will support that will then allow them to make headway.

Ammend citizens United, can the electoral college, make DC or PR a state.

Pissing on Biden from the left while he is taking a broadside from the right will just put another Trump back in office. And from what I have seen they are approaching it as a fight and not diplomacy.

Ah, typical democrats. Already arguing about how to capitulate and appear feckless before they even win the election. :disgust:
So yeah, don't expect much if any progressives in Biden's swam.. I mean cabinet: https://www.politico.com/news/2020/10/20/biden-transition-republican-cabinet-429972

So Mitch just gave Trump his third Supreme Court pick, a religious, right wing looney who has next to zero actual court experience, and Trump has given himself the power to purge all dissent from within the government to his own whims. But please, lets keep talking about how we need to find common ground. I suppose the neo-liberal left will call this a win because hey, at least she's not a rapist?

Jeff Flake is mentioned prominently in the above quoted Politico piece. Know why he's available? Because he was primaried, from the right of his own party and he was too much of a bitch to make a principled stand to hold the seat he'd only recently just won. Just like Bob Corker. Don't confuse cowardice and a desire for a book deal with some sort of heroic centrism. Being a feckless bitch who can't/wont stand on principals is not aspirational, no matter how they might try and spin it. Flake is such a jellyfish no wonder the Democrats talk about him in such glowing terms.

Compromise? With terrorists, arsonists and zealots? These people (Trump's GOP) think the world is flat, or they prey on and build power from the people who do. They think Bill Gates is giving you 5G so the Jews/hollywood elite can rape kids in a pizza parlor. They think the scientific method is a form of pulling out. These people cage brown kids then LOSE them or their parents. They want YOU DEAD, this forum is filled with examples of this. The kind of magical thinking that you can compromise or find middle ground with this sort ideology is why Trump got at least 3 SC picks and has almost completely dismantled the institution of Democracy as we know it. You think the party running on the platform of "all Dems are pedophiles" and "socialist boogeymen" are in a position to compromise, or even want to? You think McConnell gives a fuck about "compromise"? He just adjourned congress in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic so they could all go on vacation after the hard work of cramming Barret down everyone's throat. Same way he cares about deficits. Only when Dems hold power and fuck all else.

Who gives a shit about the other side. Today's GOP isn't the other side, they exist in a completely separate dimension, not the back side of a quarter. Its a completely different reality. Trumpists are still arguing about the shape of the earth and heliocentrism, but god damn if they haven't completely run circles around the "adults" on the so-called left. You don't find common ground with the inmates at Arkham Asylum. This is the ideological version of raw dogging a porn star, you're bound to get infected with an intellectual STD. In republican circles, they called it "the tea party". The well is poisoned, it doesn't matter if you only drink a little, it still rots your soul. The GOP doesn't want to work with you, and Gerrymandering means working with Dems is a death sentence. See Flake, Corker, etc.

Jesus Democrats, stand for something. Or at least act like you've realized that you aren't playing the same game. If you can't plant a flag against racism, bigotry, religious nutcase-ism, trump-ism, when can you plant your flag? Compromise with Hitler, Hirohito? Maybe Roosevelt should have just appointed a Nazi to his cabinet! Fine people on both sides, and all. They could have had a beautiful torch parade where "centrists" came with cotton candy flavored health care and they would shit big old piles of rainbow racial equality and there would have been world peace forever if only Roosevelt and Truman had reached across the Atlantic/Pacific to the other side.

You guys still don't get it. We don't live in that world anymore. It speaks volumes that even I long for someone sane on the right, like flaming bag of shit and war criminal, George W. Fuck this shit. No self identifying active republicans who didn't immediately condemn Trump the day he declared his candidacy, they are a cancer. Run them to ground. Salt the rocks they called from. Let them crawl back into their roach motels and then burn them to the fucking ground. I realize that this sounds extremist, but that's because this is where we are at, This is what's happening, to the left, from the right, right now. Trump and McConnell are marching on democracy and they are razing everything they touch. They are absolutely setting up to invalidate the election and hold power in perpetuity . But by all means, lets be civil.

We have met the enemy, and they are us.

For fuck sake.........

To my point:

You all know she's right.

Edit; also to my point:
“Remember that Republicans have lost 6 of the last 7 popular votes, but have appointed 6 of the last 9 justices," she wrote. “By expanding the court we fix this broken system and have the court better represent the values of the American people.”

This.

Pack the court. Restore some semblance of balance and sanity.
