VP-Free Fork Recommendations!

I'm currently running 2005 888RCs on my medium VP-Free. My riding is moving away from DH and more to freeride and singletrack, and therefore thinking of moving to single crown setup to lighten the front and overall bike.

Whats the verdict for fork choice for a single crown?

The models I'm considering are:
  • Marz 66 RCX or 2008 RC3's
  • Rockshox Totems
  • Fox Vans

Any recommendations for me?! I like the bombproof feel of the 888s, so 66s might be the way forward, but is it worth the change!!!!?!?

Cheers

Andy

I have a vp free with a 66 vf2 and love it. I raced DH with it all last season but also ride a lot of trails with a ton of climbing. Since I am still DHing though I am probably switching to a Fox 40 soon. I'd say the 66 is definitely a good all around fork if you're looking for good single crown. I also have several friends who have switched to totems and seem to love them.

I have a friend who has an 2006 VP-Free, and he's running a Rock Shox Totem on it, and it is super plush and awsome on pisgah's single tracks. SWEET!

I'm going to stick with my 888 on my VP for now unless I come across a great deal. When I do switch, it will be to get weight off the front end because it's front-end heavy and I don't like the imbalance. Given this objective, I would want to go with the Marzocchi 66 SL ATA because it is lighter than Fox's and RockShox's 7 inch single crown offerings. It's also cheaper and no doubt equal in quality. If I wasn't that concerned about weight and wanted insurance of strength I would go with the Totem Coil for the 40mm stanchions.
