I'm looking at maybe getting the new VP Free with the 1.5 headtube and putting a totem on it, with the intent to make it a more slopestyle type bike. I know that it wasnt meant for this type of riding but I kinda like the idea of a single crown on manuverable long travel bike. My question is if I switch out the shock to a different stroke can I lower the bb? I dont care too much about loss in travel as long as its not like 2 inches.

NORCAL is the hizzle
If you do a search you should find something about this. People ride frees with 8.5 X 2.5 shocks - usually DHX Airs. The thing is that with the shorter stroke you lose the first part of the vpp axle path. Works fine for some people but might end up runing a little less sag to retain the vpp action - and if you do that you don't really get the lower BB so there isn't much point.

Edit: FYI the stock shock is 8.75 X 2.75.
