Or to better answer your question, no.

Although I have a friend who had his VPFree set up for XC, and it pedaled OKAY, it is not a good pick in the least.

It is a good pedalling, relatively lightweight FR bike? Sure.

Would I get use that instead of a Scapel or a Nitrous for my next race or 30 miler?

It's a dumb question if you are familiar with the bikes. Obviously this person isn't and is looking for help. I don't think they posted here to get ridiculed.

Sanjuro, you gave me negative rep for knocking LBS's who have employee's with bad attitudes. It's ironic because you seem to be embodying this attitude in this thread and you yourself work in a shop. I guess I see why you were so upset over my comment. People tend to get defensive when they know a comment applies to themselves.

the bike is built up to take abuse, not be lightwieght, its more for jumping off cliff and such

Not for XC. I would only buy it as a freeride frame. Possible DH frame for the right course.
