does anyone know the correct axle path of the vpp?

i've been reading their patents, and it appears as though it swings out, so the hub goes further away, and then swings back towards the bike, like

Almost. I always thought it would be

So that the chain would pull from both the top and bottom.

What am i missing here?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am designing a bike with a similar linkage, but i hope to acheive an axle path that looks like

Also, the current patent states "an axle path with a larger arc at the bottom and a decreasing arc at the top of the travel" Ack. Does this destroy any opportunity for my design, or is the patent pretty much limited to santa cruz's designs.

one more, another thread on this.

that's the patent, in reality it's nearly straight for the first half to two thirds, and then swings forward. But the effect is the same as the patent, decreasing chain growth to the sag point, increasing chain growth after, until about 2/3rds in it arches forward for zero chain growth.
