Anyone using a Sportworks rack (1 1/4") on a VW golf? Do you need a hitch extender to allow it to fold up?

Also, are the "phat" DH tire hoops taller than the stock hoops? Thanks,

I don't think you do, I use one on my WRX and I don't need any extender.

no...just wider. If they are taller, its no more than 1"-2"

You have a receiver hitch on your Golf? What is involved in getting one installed? Any pics?

I know it fits a Subaru...it's my rack! :p Selling it to a friend with a Golf, but it looks like it's not going to fit. His hitch is crooked, though, so we'll straighten it out and see if that's the problem. Failing that, 1-2" shorter hoops would help the problem...this one has the DH hoops.

It's my friend's...he used a hidden hitch brand receiver; had to drill some holes in the frame (the hitch bolts up using one existing bolt hole and you use the hitch as a guide to drill the other ones you need). Also said something about bending the heat shield for the radiator away.

Not a huge job, but it wasn't that simple, either. You really need a lift to do it easily; at a minimum you need some jackstands.

Take a look at the Hollywood racks, they have a fork mount that holds at really high speeds (1-1/4" and I think possibly a 2")

This one has been great for me, no problems, even after some bonewipe rear-ended me on the the way home from riding. Guy had the balls to say "you're lucky I didn't damage the bike." To which I replied "I'M lucky????" He took a few steps back at that point when the gravity of what he said started to sink in. What an idiot. The hollywood was a little bent, but still works like a champ. It also flips up if you want to keep it on the car all the time.
