Regardless of who is president - the IRS allows you to reduce your own taxes through savings. As a society we focus on income taxes because its easier to blame a president than take responsibility for our own consumption.

Our taxes went down this year - mainly through savings - after we paid the cars off we maxed our 401k contributions.

Um.... Don't want to be a buzz kill but you do know that your going to get taxed on not only what you contributed but also any growth (which is assuming an awful lot at this point) when you retire right?

Huh? Part of the stimulus bill was $400/person ($800/couple) in reduced taxes. The total amount of that adds up to $116b. Is it really that hard to understand?

You can limit your taxes by limiting consumption at any point in your life - 401k savings are taxed when they are spent.

Govt is talking about taking 401k's and providing pensions... Sounds like a safe bet. It would make sense, because if they try it, huge numbers are going to pull their funds out and it will be a tax windfall for the govt.

While I find the prospect frightening, this is a straw man argument. I can find multiple sources and people who believe in 9/11 conspiracies who will say that they haven't been dis proven. That doesn't mean its not complete horsesh/t.
