i wonder why Push didnt try and make their own hi/low instead of borrowing Avy's unit.
$299 isnt that bad when you think about how much their top tune normally cost for the DHX

darren said they could have, but they knew the avy unit was basically the same thing they would have done and was proven and it helped keep costs down.

That is a very cool idea but they are using the Avalanche adjuster that is not the greatest thing since sliced bread, there are many design short falls in it.
This wouldn't be the first time you've posted up an opinion backed up with such solid reasoning. Care to (attempt to) elaborate?

That sounds like a nice upgrade to bikes that already have a DHX...or have trouble fitting other shocks (sunday).

How does this compare to the Vivid? I thought that had High and low compression?

I know that this adjuster when it takes a hard hit the spring blows upon too fast, it is not controlled as well as it could be, This is just from it being spring backed. Chances are it will work fine and no one will ever know the difference. (I use this adjuster on my bike)

I am going to venture and say he is talking about the 400% reduction of LSC if you run the HSC too far open.
This is the case with all of the shocks that utilize a low/hi adjustment system. When you remove enough preload from the HS circuit it now can open prematurely.

The BOS, Cane Creek, Elka, and RC4 all use a spring preload system on high speed. If your adjuster opens too easily, you just need to go to a firmer rate.

Interesting, I have over 3 years with my Avalanche Hi/Low adjuster, and it seems to do what it's supposed to do. I'm not seeing the "short falls" you're talking about.

I don't think you understand how a conventional LSC/HSC damper works... the needle (middle adjuster) controls LS oil flow, and once shaft speed starts increasing, extra port area will start opening via a spring backed shim. Obviously as shaft speed increases the spring will compress. The whole point of this is so that as shaft speed increases, the damping curve can become regressive rather than progressive (which is what would happen if you had an LSC port alone - in laymans terms, spike!). It is supposed to open up at higher shaft speeds, that's the whole point.

The reason there is an adjuster for preload on this spring (HSC/outer adjuster) is so that YOU control when the extra port area starts opening, therefore "how well it is controlled" is in YOUR hands. Given that PUSH supposedly offer 3 different HSC spring rates to suit different frames (aside from the preload adjustability) which to my knowledge no one else does, I'd say they've covered the aspect fairly well (perhaps the spring in your personal damper is too soft as Darren suggested).

Did I hear right that this kit will also be offered for the Van R? Is the end result exactly the same shock as if you start with the DHX? I haven't seen the modern Van R so I don't know if it has the same shaft size, etc. as the DHX...

I'd be interested too, but i don't think you can get Van R's in DH lengths.

No it wouldn't, the non-piggyback side of the bridge on the air shock is much larger in diameter (air can diameter).

I didnt see anything that they would be teh exact same afterwords, the part I see that would be different would be the adjustable bottom out and user adjustable resi pressure.

Any news on what happened with this?

All mention of it seems to have been wiped conveniently from the PUSH site (even though it originally said June 6th release), and Darren stopped answering emails about it.

Is this just going to be vapourware like the vivid upgrade and boxxer upgrade?

edit: looks like I was wrong!

Hopefully it actually makes it to the market, I was really hoping to get my boxxer pushed, and got 3 friends who were already set on getting this tune.

Just another pipe dream. I was super excited about the vivid and boxxer upgrade, I already had money ready to go.

I was wondering the same thing when I was on the push site. I go one EVERY single day hoping to see the Boxxer upgrade being offered.

It's a long story, but the short version is that we had a new server and network install go very very wrong. Any thing through our Exchange email server from 5/30 - 6/4 was lost. Our entire network was done for that same amount of time and as of last Friday we finally have access to the entire network again. Crippled.

Anyway, this week is the cleanup and sorting of all of the mess but we will be scheduling MX Tunes very shortly through service. There hasn't been any modifications of the bridge since before the Litter piece as we had a fully developed part at that time and we're actually machining the production pieces when that piece was shot.

Sorry for the delays and for anyone who didn't get a response to an email inquiry,

Darren

I hope not, I have $$$ saved too. My dream set up is an MX Tuned DHX in the back w/a WC Tuned Boxxer up front.

If this doesn't happen soon I will definitely be getting a used 888 when Avy has their new cartridges ready. I am a huge fan of what PUSH can do but I keep getting blue balled by these new upgrades not being released.:disgust1:

Edit: I must have been typing this while Darren was posting his response. Looks like some relief is in sight (at least for the DHX).

How about those Rock Shox products??? I have one of my boxxers waiting and the vivid could use some work for the 303-R.
