Those things look so cool. Must get a lot of time off, what with the manoeuvring those wings around up to those heights. Things must get called off pretty often...

on top of the mt. that we d.h. off of.
they have 18 of em.

you just can't fathom how big they are until you see them in person.
the bigger ones have blades that are 120ft. long.
and the hub that sits up on top of the tower is about the size of the space shuttle when we saw them on the ground before installation.

What do you think about the hippies that try to stop construction of such things because they kill (apparently stupid) birds and bats?

(I'm a grade C hippie sympathizer)

I'm not a big fan of killin' critters, but I think this is better than the alternatives...

you know
hooking millions of humans up to wires and submerging them in a gel like substance and harvesting their electrical current in large towers, all the while the humans are leading dream lives....
and then Matrix 3 happens...

and we all know THAT was a crap flick

They are putting those things up on just about any hill they can find here in E. Washington these days. Usually several times a week I see the trucks carrying the pieces down the highway on my commute to work.

Like dhbuilder says, it's amazing how huge those things are when you get up close. Each one of the blades gets a truck and trailer to itself in transport.

When I lived in town, PGE had an option for wind power. 10% or something of our monthy power bill went to wind power research. If done right, it's a great option.
