i went to my lbs and ordered an x-firm spring for my Sherman Jumper. this evening, i went to switch them out, and noticed this:

the label on the bag says "'03 Sherman Tune Kit X-Firm" and "SHER FLK/FFL/ XFRM RIDE".

i know the shop ordered it from QBP, and the order form/ receipt says Sherman Flick Xtra Firm kit. when i told the person what i was looking for, i mentioned that the fork was an 80mm Flick, so i'm thinking the spring i was given is for 100mm fork.

or am i supposed to compress the spring enough to fit?

I dont think there is such thing as an 80mm Flick. Only an 80 mm Jumper. I may be wrong though.

hm, i was told the Jumper was basically a Flick dropped to 80mm. well, there were no springs for the Jumper in the QBP catalog. is that where the spring should have been found, or was the shop supposed to call Manitou directly?

that was there for the seatpost, and bolt on the seat clamp. i was gonna head up to the shop tomorrow and grab some Prep M. is that suitable? if not, what am i looking for? i see that Motorex on the Manitou site, but the description doesn't say too much.

Yes PrepM is great. If theres a moto shop near you I'd recommend picking up some BelRay Waterproof Grease. Its basically slick honey but green, and only $4.99 for a small tub. Thats what I use on the insides of forks, it works great.

Basically yes it is. Externally it is the same (except shorter) Internally its about the same (except a shorter spring). Id be willing to bet that the spring that you recieved is actually for a 110-150mm fork rather than a 80 mm fork.
If it wasnt in the Quality cataloge then the shop probably should have tried Manitou. I might be wrong though, Ive never actually swapped springs in my Jumper or my Firefly.

case, i went there today, actually, looking for clear protection tape stuff. i love that place.

well the compression rod bolt is SAE, like 2003 Shermans, according to the 2003 manual. the 2004 manual says it's metric. regardless, 03 and 04 Shermans used the same spring.
