They have aquired a quite ripe scent of chaparral and bad sweat that febreeze doesnt fix. Is it safe to wash them?

This works for me:
Take a 5 gallon pail, and fill it with HOT water, and a 1/4 cup of Biz detergent. Put the pads in vertically and put something on top so they wont float to the top. Let soak for a few hours. The Biz breaks down body oils and sweat.
Remove from pail, the water should be really gross. Wrap all the ties around, and fasten all velcro, then wash as usual.
They come out clean and don't smell until you wear them again...

thanks for the tip. NOw how to try and do this in the dorms. LOL
