Wasn't it already unsafe just by being a Pinto?

My '66 had saddle tanks AND a cab mounted tank when I first bought it. When I am done, it will have a Pinto style rear mounted tank. :panic:

I like that he bothered to spend the money on proper fuel line and clamps and then proceeded to slam the hood on the hose and wire the pump up with wire nuts. Seem legit.

I heard that the GM trucks with "saddle bags" gas tanks were much more of a hazard and involved in far more fires than the Pinto.

Edit:
Found this:

http://www.motherjones.com/environment/2010/03/gm-ck-exploding-pickup

And this:

http://www.autosafety.org/history-gm-side-saddle-gas-tank-defect

The number is 20 times as many deaths as the Pinto.

And here comes Woodsguy to ruin another thread with his Debbie Downer, super-serious mode!
