I need to get some advice on Camcorders, but I know next to nothing about them. What I do know is that my in-laws said that they would buy one for us to film our little one (on the way!)….let’s face it however – I’d be using this to take some shots of friends riding, etc. as well.

Here are the models that were brought up to me:

Sony - DVD 105 Handycam

Samsung - DC164

Cannon - DC100

Samsung – 363

Can anyone recommend some comparable models/brands (around the same price)? Why are they better or worse?

The mother in-law says that she wants to pick this up this week….so I need to make an informed decision fast! I have read many reviews on these and my head is spinning!

I would get something that records on either minidv tapes or a hardrive, I prefer minidv tapes.
other than that just look at good battery life (you don't want the batt to be dead when the kid takes his first steps) and size (so you can stuff it in your camelback). Also if you ever want to get a proper helmet cam look for a camera with a video input.
