Guy I work with made a cool little Christmas tree out of LED's and put it into a small pot filled with rocks. I checked out the back of rocks and it was imported from China. How messed up is it that we have to import rocks from the other side of the world. I can't think that it is actually cheaper to ship a container full of rocks from China than it would be shovel some into a bag domestically.
I worked on a project last year where we contracted out the assembly of a complex electrical cabinet. A local company came in with a quote that was the same as a place in China. The company went with the Chinese supplier basically because it impressed upper management that we were going international to find the best price. I wonder how common this is?
