directly above the center of the earth
don't know who he was or where he was headed but he spent his last moments on his bike peddaling along Skyline Blvd in the Santa Cruz Mts

We got a call for a Bicyclist down on the roadway. CPR was started by passing motorists
We had an engine on scene in minutes with an AED.
We landed a Life flight, Medics from another engine gave him two rounds of drugs....flatline :(

medics called it

sent the helo off empty :(

Massive heart attack

we did everything we could to try and bring him back

crappy Sunday

Damn dude, I'm sorry to hear that! Thats never a good thing to find, ESPECIALLY when you are out on a nice ride.

I hope whoever he left behind is OK, and that he's off to somehwere better where he can ride his bike all the time :thumb:

Was he older? It'd be kinda weird if he just had a heart attack for no apparent reason at a youngish age. Of course over training can do that I suppose. Sad news :(

Thats terrible. But I suppose if your going to die, you may as well do it doing something you love.

similar situation happened to a friend on our local trails in April....only 34 and had a massive heart attack on the trail and died :(

Hopefully he went peacefully doing something he loved and his family can take some comfort in that.

UPDATE:

Store Owner Clay Mankin Dies While On Road Ride

NOVEMBER 15, 2005 -- SAN FRANCISCO, CA (BRAIN)—Clay Mankin, owner of City Cycle in San Francisco, died Sunday while out on a road ride. Authorities are determining if he was hit by a vehicle or crashed on his own, but it is believed he died of natural causes.

Mankin was apparently unconscious when he was found on a road in San Mateo County around 3:37 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. He was pronounced dead around 4:16 p.m.

“Clay was setting off to do a nice ride for his 50th birthday to Santa Barbara to meet some friends. Witnesses said he passed out and fell off his bike, and when the CHP arrived he was pronounced dead at the scene,” said City Cycle manager Marc Foose.

Mankin would have turned 50 on November 22. He leaves behind his wife, Allison, and son, Riley, age 4.

“This is a very sad day for all of us who knew Clay. He was always sincere, gracious and a genuinely nice person. The world needed more Clays,” said Al Budris, vice president of business management for Veltec Sports.

The CHP's Redwood City area office is investigating the crash and an autopsy report from the San Mateo County Coroner's Office is pending.

Updated information about the cause of his death as well as details on funeral arrangements and requested donations will be posted on the City Cycle web site, www.citycycle.com.
