yo @Westy - smacked your dome recently? any chance you have a concussion?

Nope.

However I am pretty sure I have narrowed it down to Occipital Neuralgia. Basically I pinched a nerve in my neck from a variety of means of neck abuse over past week and a half. Applying heat to the back of neck has already helped a lot. Now the question is do I bother with a doctor or just trust my superior problem-solving skills.

Blow it off dude. What's the worst that could happen? Besides being crippled or dead?

How many days would you think would be optimal for rest between training and the event ? A few, a week ?
It depends. If the half marathon is the race you've been training for, I'd give it 7-10 days. You don't want to rest though, you want to "taper" before the race. Keep up the same training intensity but scale back the distance of the runs, then go real easy a couple days before the race. For me, this race is part of my marathon training and not my first priority, so I'll take it easy for a few days before the race. Normally I would even give it just one day, but I want to be somewhat rested this time so I can really give it a hard effort. How I do Saturday will help me decide how to run the Boston Marathon. For Boston, I'll taper down for two full weeks before the race. It weird because late in your taper period as your body gets rested and starts to heal, you start to feel like complete hell.

Only owe $2400 in taxes this year, FTMFW! CPA also said that I need to open an LLC for Haley. If there's the slightest chance that somebody might give her money for sponsorship or that she might win money (largely just the K1 race), then we need to have it in a separate entity so we can start writing off the costs of racing. It's pushing the hobby law risk (has to be profitable 2 of 5 years to be a business), but it's worth the $100 to setup an LLC.

You are a finance guy and pay someone to do your taxes?

Fuck yeah. I am good at Financial Planning and investing. I am not a tax specialist. Know your specialties and pay for other people to do things that you are not a specialist at.

My wife has some of the smartest wealthy fuckers as clients. The smart ones know there is simply no way that could truly be experts at taxes and tax laws, as the laws change constantly. The egotistical ones usually end up paying much more, or making expensive mistakes that have to be rectified. We are not talking single W4 earners, etc. We are talking complicated scenarios.

Just because they are incredibly well informed on a few things doesn’t mean they aren’t dumb-asses in others. Classic fallacy.

The Dunning-Kruger effect exists at every level on intelligence, this is just farther to the right on the curve.

I have some guys like that. Engineers, tech guys, etc. Insistence that just being in the SP500 is all you need to do to make the money you need for the future. There is no need for an FA or CFP. I've seen them post on Reddit with the "I just got hit with a tax bill this big. What can I do to keep it from happening again?" and the answer is FA/CFP 101.

I'll occasionally tell someone "hey, have you thought about how what you're doing will impact XYZ?" only to get them to start asking me detailed questions about it. Sorry, this knowledge isn't free. Oh, and what I'm referring to is a multi-step process where if you get one of them wrong, it will be very costly. But please, remind me why FA/CFPs are just sales people and thieves.

This. I know what I know, and tax law ain't it. I've been paying someone else to do my taxes for years, especially once our finances got complex.

Btw the IRS has had my 2023 return for 6 weeks now, still not approved. Oopsy!

Doctor confirmed nothing wrong inside my head. Prescribed some muscle relaxers so at least I will sleep well tonight.
