In the bathroom, fighting a battle
So we finally got the first real swell for the season here in V-town. Yesterday it was consistenly head high, so I spent 8 hours in the water and didn't take any pictures. The swell died a little today so I shot for an hour or so and paddled out at about 7:00 PM. Seing as how this weeks photo theme is movement/motion, here is a smattering of my take. Lots of cutbacks and topturns, not airs unfortunately.

This something I've not yet seen in a mag, so I thought I'd try it out, panning in a surf shot, what do you think?

Now lets see your shots.

I think the pan didn't work so great. heh.

500 f4? I have to order a 400 2.8 in a couple of weeks. Ouch.
400 2.8 with a 1.4x for some a 2x for others.

1/25 may be too slow for surfing, the movement was a little too much. It was worth a shot, I wasn't super happy with it but needed another opinion before deciding I officialy don't like the effect.

400s are expensive, but oh so worth it. Definitly worth the extra bucks to get a new IS one if you hate tripods like I do. Don't you Canuks get a decent discount through CPS?

Where did you shoot these? Beautiful roller surf.
And it appears to be colder there then here at Virginia Beach. I am still riding in a pair of shorts and a heater top. South of the equator?

The pan probably woulda worked at 1/60 or higher.

As for the 4, I agree. I have a 3 now and it just doesn't have quite the reach I want for football stuff. I don't even own a decent tripod anymore, i abhore them.

I think cps is about 35% off up here, but then tack on taxes.

I guess it's good that I'm 4 hours from anything that resembles waves.
