Here's the deal with out of district memberships such as this

first of all the reason for the fee is because the location is usually out of any fire district boundaries and is usually nowhere near any hydrants or constant water sources. this then means it will entail the use of several water tenders and mutual aid engines for suppression.

the fee is not even for the use or operation costs of these man hours or apparatus, the fee is to cover the insurance of the personnel and equipment used in the suppression efforts involved in the advent of a structure fire only.

the last reason the dept could not engage in any suppression efforts is due to a "suppression plan" was not in place since the homeowner opted out of the cost. if he would have paid the dept would have had his structure drawn as a floor plan that would have included all exits, electrical panels, HVAC diagrams and interior attack contingencies (wich are all SOP for any dept.) all tied up in a tidy map book and would have spelled out any additional resources needed.

it is really a small price to pay, but the dept. hands are tied. it is more of a protection policy for the crews than anything.

Boo fvcking hoo. I didn't get paid 75 bucks for a 300 dollar operation so instead, we got the trucks nearby to protect 'paid customers'. Yeah that's right, we had the trucks really close to there but didn't put out a fire that was burning someone's fvcking home down. As a supervisor, I fell really good about that because I can justify it on paper. If the trucks can be hassled to drive within the line of sight, they can be troubled to squirt a little water. I don't care what it looks like on paper.....if you're that close and don't do anything, you're just an as$hole. Send an inflated bill afterwords if you're that concerned.
