I have 1gb fiber to the house and the router they installed is showing a 400mb speed.

Would a better router do anything? Or is max speed when you use a wire between modem and computer?

So, if you can figure, I am not computer smrt.

If you've got 1Gb/s (gigabit per second) fiber, where are you seeing the 400Mb (megabit) number reported, on the router itself as the connection speed, or via a browser when you try to use speedtest.net?

400Mb is 50MB (megabytes) per second, that's getting close to maxing out what you'll get through a wired 1Gb connection.

I did a speedtest.net with my tablet next to the router.

So the router is a deco x20 just wondering if a "better" router makes things more awesome or a router is a router.

I was downloading from IBM on my wired work laptop earlier at ~320Mbps, when I do a speedtest.net test over wifi from the same room on a different laptop I just got 225Mbps. Both on the same Xfinity router at my house.

If you're getting 400Mbps on a tablet that sounds pretty good to me  , if you've got a computer see what that says you're getting.
