So.......I've been jobless for a while now, and have come to the point where I was applying for everything and anything. I managed to apply for some entry level accounting position at a local credit union (basicly any job that said entry or would train) as I've been out of it for so long (2+ years) and wanting to change the field of work in didn't help....
So I interviewed for the spot...and got a call a few days later saying it was filled internally. I then was asked if I wanted to interview for a teller job. I said sure, why not and went for an interview.
Funny thing was is the accounting spot offered little to no personal interaction where as the teller is 100% people.......something I really don't care for. I never thought I was bad working with people (like the public) but in alot of ways I wanted something that didn't involve them.
So......they require you to wear a nicer shirt/tie/not jeans to work which I guess is expected for a bank job. They offer paid holiday's, paid sick/vacation time, paid medical/dental/vision insurance that the company pays for. The hours are normal, and the pay to start is $10-10.50 and then at 6 months you get a review & from that point on it's annual. It's full time work which at this point is the only way I'd surrvive. So there are some nice perks that I know many places around here for that amount ($10 to even $15) don't offer.
It's 2 blocks away from where I live (so I can walk) which is another plus. That was the main reason I even went in for an interview in the first place because it was so close to where I live.
My question is has anyone been a teller or IS a teller at a bank or credit union and enjoy it? It's a small setup but they are the credit union for the county (plus the hospital) so it does bring them enough bussiness to stay going. They did say there is advancements but where do you go in a bank situation as a teller? At my bank the same tellers are there 6 years later.....so it made me wonder.
Just anything really about it, it's always good to hear some other opinions about things
