Well, he didn't get to use his death machine on himself...

I'm sure he'd be happy that he died suddenly and didn't feel the need to end is own life with his machine.

I'm not much for heroes, but he just may have well been one.
Used to think so, and I'm all for legal assisted suicide, but the details turn out to be that he would assist anyone that asked, sometimes within 24 hours of first meeting them. He was helping physically healthy people with treatable depression kill themselves, without even suggesting alternatives. That crosses a line for me from euthanasia (treating the physically ill) to murder (preying on the mentally ill).

Pay particular attention to the last four patients listed. I'm not saying that these people didn't have the right to choose death, but Kevorkian was NOT in a position to make a medical diagnosis, and did not seek any kind of validation or second opinion. I think that, at best, he was basically willing to assist anyone at any moment because it was their choice, which I think is irresponsible. I think at worst, he actively wanted to kill people (my opinion, not fact).

In an ideal world, we would maybe be operating under conditions like Oregon or Holland.

The United States is not that ideal world-because that's assuming proper pain management and mental health care.

The Badger one bothers me, but I'd lay a lot of that blame at the MS diagnosis, which wasn't Kevorkian's fault.

hmm...

2 of the people on that list were nurses and one was a nursing home assistant. It looks like the people who have seen what it is like to go out in a hospital bed want a better way.

Suicide is horrible for the family.

Insurance not paying unless you suffer to death is criminal.
:stupid:

I would rather go out on my own terms if given the chance. Oregon has had a rough battle with the whole "death with dignity" situation, but I have always and will continue to support it. Think of it as post term self abortion.
