That a kid I grew up with throughout my grade school and high school just died in Iraq. He left behind a wife and 2 kids.

He was a military man, and I know that being in that profession there are inherent dangers, but knowing that the war in Iraq is Bush's complete F'up, and it claimed the life of a friend, kills me.

I am sorry, but I needed to rant somewhere... I am really just at a loss for words...

any one else lose someone close to them, during this bumble'FVCK of a "War on Terror"?

Sorry to hear about your friend Brunge. Luckily the folks I know who have been or are there now have been safe. My old boss was a company commander in the reserves and he now has a wall full of pictures in his office of all his guys he lost over there.

sorry to hear your news, brunge. A couple of people I grew up with are over there now. I can't even imagine being over there. Somehow I always think of them when I feel like I'm having a really sh!tty day here and suddenly it doesn't seem quite so bad.

Sorry to hear about your friend man. Our corrupt president has a lot of innocent blood on his hands. Hopefully it will end soon. :(

Boston....outside of it....
Sorry to hear.

I was in the military, so I know plenty of people who are still in.... I get sort of weirded out when they're over there.

And I'm safe in my house typing on the internet.

Sorry for your loss. I teach at one of our service academies. Every once and a while, we'll get an email saying that graduate so and so was killed in action in Iraq / Afganistan. I haven't been here long enough to have any students graduate and go out to fight but still it's tough knowing that it could be one of your students.

Also, my wife's cousin has been over to Iraq and back a few times now. Everyone says he just isn't the same anymore. Last time he came home, the family threw a big welcome home party for him. He ended up sitting off by himself in a quiet corner most of the afternoon with a blank look on his face. It must be a tough place.

wow thanks folks! I am sure his family needs the vibes right now!

I just really feel like sh!t about it!

I feel for all of you who have friends or family, classmates, or coworkers in harms way... Todd was a good guy! My friends and I got picked on for being skaters, but Todd was a good dude and would defend me and a few others cause he knew who we were long before the cliques formed. I can't help but think he was helping people where ever he went.

I had a close call at the beginning of this school year with a student of mine who finished HS last year, went into the military, and became a sniper. In Iraq only a month when he was sent on a mission...well he missed 3 weeks worth of "check ins" and I got word from his parents that the military wasn't confirming or denying his status... we were all just stunned. a week later almost 5 weeks after the initial assigment he got word out that he was stuck and surrounded, and several of the guys he was working with were killed. The military launched some sort of quasi rescue and recovered him safely... but his buddies were not so lucky... We have only heard bits and peices of his story through his parents, and most of it is very vague...

but Todd was the first person I knew that fell during the "war on terror" :disgust1:

That sucks a whole lot.

My old unit was in Iraq at the start and was the only one to come back whole (I was not with them). They have a volunteer force deployed to Afghanistan and are due back in 3 months.

I learned last month through the grapevine that one guy I knew died via IED. He was the driver for the CO. He left a wife and 4 kids behind and was 2 years away from his 20 letter in the National Guard.

Not matter how you slice it, it's a whole lot of suck.
