I think I remember from the documentary that they have members around the world (?). If they issued that press release I'll bet they will at least try and make it to the funeral.
Second, I don't think they are doing anything that Christianity doesn't demand. Much like the difference between Muslims who don't hijack planes and the ones who say "Sept 11 was wrong, BUT..." I think that many Christians (I'd actually go so far as to say the majority of US Christians, and definitely the majority of self described evangelical US Christians) don't disagree with the message that WBC preaches, but merely the delivery.
and again, for those who've not read a phelps thread here in a while, i've not seen this type of christian even once, and i'm part of the inner sanctum. of course there are exceptions, but i would expect this immaturity doesn't stop at homophobia
I said this a couple of years ago on this board, but doesn't it say something that the people protesting the WBC and surrounding them aren't a bunch of church going Christians?
After all, someone keeps voting to make sure that Ted Haggard can't marry his true love (And no, it's not meth...) and I don't think it's a bunch of secular humanists, y'know?
No, I don't believe they are. My point is that if Christianity was all about love and compassion, there would be no need for a bunch of bikers to be involved because every member in every church in every town Fred Phelps ever went to would be out there standing vigil.
But, of course, they can't do that, because then they would be on the side of the faggots...

are you so sure every biker from every club in every town phelps goes to is doing the same? quite a high bar you set there (you're asking for perfection, which no one in their right mind claims to profess). i thought most bikers were too busy doing shots w/ pee-wee or tracking h.i. McDunnough
as appealing as it would be to beat phelps like an egyptian slave, that wouldn't be very compassionate, now would it. you know of a way to confront phelps w/o wanting to do that? it's all about not being led to temptation is all i'm saying.

What I find more interesting is the lack of action on the side of the benevolent and compassionate Christian churches. When a bunch of Hells Angels make you look bad morally without even trying...
THE church group that celebrated Heath Ledger's death and threatened to picket his funeral have another message for all Australians - you will all burn in hell.
The Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) - who sentenced Ledger to an eternity in hell because he played a gay character - have even dedicated a website to it - godhatesaustralia.com
It joins a growing hate list, which includes their godhatesfags.com and godhatesamerica.com.
