Ours is set at 60 so I guess we like it cold. If we're watching TV we just throw on a blanket or a cat or two.

Our heat was broken from the week before thanksgiving until last week. We had a few nights that were down to 50 inside and one night where you could just start to see your breath in the house. I guess we got used to it. Anything warmer than 60 feels like a sauna now.

Before I started riding and was 35lbs heavier I would be comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt at 60. A little older and skinnier I have to wear several warm layers under 65.

Wake - 66 upstairs/65 Downstairs
Leave - 60 upstairs/62 Downstairs
Home - 66 Downstairs/62 Upstairs
Night - 62 Downstairs/64 Upstairs

We use a wood stove nearly every night thats below freezing (downstairs) so the actual temp is much warmer when were home in the evening.

I have to set mine at 76 to keep the AC from coming on during the day. Last weekend I actually had to wear a long sleeve shirt!
I had to bust out the hoodies! With the highs only in the 70's, I'm freezing!

Usually set to 60 at night and when we're out, 65 when we're home or we leave it at 60 and let the fireplace warm the living room. Oil is just too darn expensive to waste!

The affect of the thermostat setting greatly depends on your system. On some systems, it cost more to maintain a house at 68 Deg. F. the others.

in the area your asking about, a heat pump is actually self defeating since the temperature is extremely low in that neck of the woods, thereby utilizing the electric backup. (Required by code)

Actually in my market we have been quite successful switching people to heat pumps with a dual fuel control board so when temps get low than can use gas eliminating those annoying and costly strip heaters, couple a heatpump up with a two stage, variable speed furnace, it works out to be a fairly efficient system that provides maximum comfort.
