"It was a funny angle!"
I went for a ride on Saturday and when I woke up Sunday I had a strange feeling in my upper back. It feels a little numb and there is some tingling in a small area right between my shoulder blades.

I have decided that if it doesn't get better by tommorrow with some ice I will see a doctor. Now here is the problem, what type of doctor do I go see? Chiropractor, sports medicine, ortho? I had a guy I used to go to but he is no longer in my PPO plan. He was a DO, anyone know what that means?

TIA

DO is doctor of osteopathic medicine or something close to that. essentially is equivalent to MD, with perhaps a bit more emphasis on manipulating stuff physically (a la the chiropractors). i would go to a primary care doc first. generally you can't jump straight to specialists, and this problem seems pretty general/common (maybe a pinched nerve?).

If you are going to go to a Dr. for having a sore back after a MTB ride, you might as well go to a proctologist. If you are gonna get screwed in the rear, do it by somebody who has a degree in it. :thumb:

I know what your saying but this doesn't feel like soar muscle. More like Toshi said, a nerve. At times it feels like it is burning. I will just keep icing it. Never had a pinched nerve, what do you do for something like this?

Definitely see your primary care doctor first. For nerve injuries, chiropractors/osteopaths can actually be quite dangerous. I know several people who had back problems and got taken from the chiropractor's office in an ambulance because of fused disks and such that turned out to require serious surgery as a result.

Yeah, I was kidding because my back hurts after a lot of rides.
If it is a pinched nerve, the people I know who have had them, just had to wait them out. Unless of course, it is really painful, and you need to go to the Doc for pain meds. which may or not help a nerve. Good luck either way.
As far as your old Doc not being in your new PPO network, you may want to actually call him and ask. Sometimes those PPO's are bad about not updating their lists.

How are you liking the chameleon?

I hit up Gambrill to shake off the winter rust and to suck some wind. It pretty much handed my a$$ to me. Was patapsco wet? are you riding this weekend?
