New oil is the biggest thing you can do. Good high quality synthetic stuff will do wonders for those things. I personally use 2.5w rebound side and half 7.5w/ half 10w compression side.

2004 team
compression all open
running with just one yelow spring in the rebound side
and on top of the spring I put the top plastic from the compression side (it's longer so the sag is not low)
I use 5wt oil in the copresion side and 10wt oil on the rebound side
I weight 70 kilograms

I ran my 04 Team for the first time this weekend and have almost the same setup as yos1s25 except with more compression dampning. That will be change this weekend.

I had great succes with the fork and it was a better match with my Orange 222, body weight and riding style than my Shiver.

Hating the boxxer is getting so old and stupid.

sold it and bought a marzocchi that way i did not have to screw with it and put money and time into it to make it function well.

Not the Boxxer - RockSh1ts complete lack of quality control - I've heard that the Boxxers ride nice when you aren't working on them.

s1ngletrack that made more sense and I know about this when I bought the Boxxer but I am lucky to have the best bike mechanic I have ever meet in my 10 years of mountain biking here in Brooklyn and he can tune and maintain boxxers so the work great for a very good price.

That's cool - I've just had really bad luck w/ their front and rear shocks (not the Boxxer, in all fairness) in the past and vowed long ago to disparage the not-so-good name of RS till the day I die - but I'll lay off with the rant.

I haven't got the full skinny on it yet but I hear you can use fox seals(?) on the boxxer so they won't start peeing as fast as they ususally do. They supposedly have a dual seal. Might get it done this week if I have the $$. I'll try and find out which ones to use and post if someone doesn't beat me to it.

for seals...another option is http://www.enduroforkseals.com/ but I've had good luck with stock RS seals.

I got nothing to add to this thread....Boxxers are great forks - you don't like em'? so be it! But like CBJ said, all this RS/Boxxer bashing is getting old! :dead:

I know that fox seals are the same size, but why pay for fox ones when you can get seals at the local bearing/hydraulic supply place for like $2 each?

Also, regular RS seals are also dual lip scraper seals. They just like to charge ya more for them.

I never screw with my fork either. My girlfriend says it just gets in the way so I have to put it on the floor and continue without it. :D

Red Line Oil!!!!! It's the sh*t. Just ordered those enduroseals. Did some research and they are made by an aircraft seal company in Oakland. Being an aircraft mechanic that alone sold me. Aircraft parts have such a high QC. If you blow a seal at 30,000 ft your not just pulling over to fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about high speed compression setting?

Recently I've been getting a harsh metal on metal feeling without it bottoming. (yes, it's an 04)

My guess is my HS comp is setup wrong.

that sounds like the same problem I was having with mine BEFORE getting the Black Box upgrade (new rebound base valve)

Like a bottom out feel when hitting hard hits at speed - but just getting like half or 3/4's of the travel? Is that it?

I have fiddled w/my high speed compression, I forget, if the nut is screwed all the way in that is fully "on" or fully off?

What about changing up my oil weight?

I had the fork dialed for awhile, then put new oil in (same weight) and did a spring swap (stiffer for durango/snowmass) and i've since had problems.

that's it for sure, but i have the 04 stuff
Humm...dunno what to say? after I did that to mine it took care of the problem.

As for the High Speed Compression. If you turn the compression nut clockwise, it will INCREASE high speed compression (i.e. slower compression at hight speeds).

From reading the RS manual is understand is so: Slow speed compression from the outside through the outside but high speed compression has to be adjusted by taking the fork apart?

yes...that is correct. And the HSC is independent of the LSC setting.
