there are more programs than you can shake a stick at.
i use Nero, but iTunes is easy enough too. it depends on how much control you want (there are various things you can control, which may or may not matter to you).

The 40GIG Ipod I bought is coming loaded FULL with songs. I need somewhere to store them and I'll probably burn a few on disc to listen to on occasion.

since i've spent the better part of a year ripping cds and fixing mp3 tags, i definitely needed a backup of those files. using additional hard drives didn't seem to make economic sense, so i bit the bullet and did it the brute force method.

it's a field which is stored into the mp3 file (you can also add artwork to the mp3 file) which mp3 players use to tell files apart. if all you had was a file w/ no tags, yr iPod probably couldn't display anything (or anything correctly).
check out tag&rename (www.softpointer.com); it's a cool program. there's a free one called TheGodFather which i never tried.
